Africa Cup of Nations 2023 – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

It is semi-final night at the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday when both matches take place out in the Ivory Coast on a night where two African powerhouses will look to make it through to the final at the weekend.

Those two powerhouses will be up against dangerous outsiders in what look like a couple of competitive semi-finals as we get closer to finding out who the best team across the continent of Africa is.

Nigeria vs South Africa (17.00)

The opening semi-final of the tournament sees two of the bigger nations in Africa battling it out when Nigeria look to move into the final of a competition many expected them to win with the firepower they have at their disposal. South Africa are in the way.

South Africa took care of Morocco in the round of 16 and then got past an impressive looking Cape Verde in the quarter final and never conceded a goal in either match. In fact, since their opening game where they looked a little short on quality, they have improved into the tournament nicely and could be a real threat. Victor Osimhen is a doubt for Nigeria which doesn’t help them here, although Ademola Lookman has looked in fine form the longer the competition has gone on. Bafana Bafana have shown they can be dangerous but it is hard to go against Nigeria so I’ll leave this one alone.

Ivory Coast vs DR Congo (20.00)

The second semi-final of the competition will see the host nation Ivory Coast looking to make it through to the final of their own party. A determined DR Congo side is all that stands between the hosts and the title match.

Ivory Coast must be wondering how they are still in this tournament. They looked dead and buried when they took a huge battering by Equatorial Guinea in their last group game but amazingly they made it through as a best third placed side and even in the knockout stages they have ridden their luck with a last minute goal keeping them in the competition in the quarter final before a last minute winner in extra time for them through to this stage. At some point their luck is going to run out and DR Congo will be hoping that is here. To be fair to DR Congo, they have only won one match in five inside 90 minutes in this competition so they have ridden their own luck a little. I do think there are goals in these two sides though and given that they have lived a charmed life in the competition there is no reason why both won’t go looking for goals here. Their last meeting ended 0-0 but the 10 before it all had two or more goals so these two attack minded nations tend to deliver good games when they meet. I fancy that will be the case here too. I’ll take the over 1.75 goals in this one.
