The round of 16 gets underway at the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday when the top half of the draw play down to the quarter final of the ATP Indian Wells tournament as we get nearer the business end of the Masters 1000 event.
Only two of the top eight seeds in this half of the draw have made it through to this stage of the tournament and will be hoping to make it into the quarter final but that means there is a great chance for some others to go well.
Stadium 1
Three of the four men’s matches on Tuesday are on Stadium 1 but it is a women’s match which opens up the action but when the men come along we will see arguably the pick of the matches as the exciting Holger Rune takes on the reinvigorated Stefanos Tsitsipas before the day session gets rounded out by two men who have a huge opportunity in front of them as Marcos Giron meets Arthur Fils to round out the day session. The night session begins with a men’s match too and that sees the man beaten in the last two finals here in Daniil Medvedev taking on the home star Tommy Paul.

Stadium 2
The scheduling has been quite weird on Tuesday and it means that we only have the one match over on Stadium 2 and in order to avoid a clash in the men’s matches this one comes along right at the beginning of the day. It sees the man who probably did the most damage in terms of opening up this half of the draw in Tallon Griekspoor, the man who beat Alexander Zverev in the second round, taking on the Japanese qualifier Yosuke Watanuki who is enjoying a decent run in the tournament having seen off Frances Tiafoe in the previous round.
Betting
I’m already on Tommy Paul to win the second quarter of this tournament and when you consider if he beats Daniil Medvedev he would have the winner of Marcos Giron and Arthur Fils, if you have followed me in on that bet I would understand why you want nothing to do with the American in this match but I can’t ignore backing him at odds against given the troubles of the Russian this season and the lack of any real test that he has had this week.
Medvedev cruised through his second round match with Yunchaokete Bu, which he was expected to do, but Alex Michelsen retired after two games of their third round match. Paul has been going well this season and in terms of this week his win over Cameron Norrie is the standout piece of form. Medvedev does have a good record here but he is only 2-8 against top 20 players on a hard court in the last 12 months and this year he has lost to lowly ranked players far too regularly. The courts look to be playing much slower than even they did in the past this week and that should benefit Paul, as does the recent form, so at odds against he is the play here.
