The third round of the ATP Miami Open comes to a close on Monday when the top half of the draw plays down to the last 16 on what is expected to be another exciting dose of action around the grounds of the Hard Rock Stadium.
Some of the tennis we saw on Sunday was of a brilliantly high standard and with the number one seed among those on the schedule on Monday we would be foolish to think we will get any different on day six of the competition.
Stadium
The action on the Stadium court begins with one of the two men’s matches that take place in the main arena over the course of Monday and it sees the number one seed Daniil Medvedev looking to make progress. He takes on the Spanish player Pedro Martinez for a place in the third round. The remainder of the day session is all about the women’s draw so we have to wait for the beginning of the night session for the other men’s match. That sees the Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas going up against Alex de Minaur.
Grandstand
Three of the eight matches on show in the men’s draw on Monday comes over on the Grandstand court but not before a women’s match starts off the schedule. When that is done the defending champion Hubert Hurkacz continues his title defence against Aslan Karatsev before the exciting Spanish youngster Carlos Alcaraz steps back out onto the court. He has a date with the former US Open champion Marin Cilic. The final men’s match sees Taylor Fritz looking to continue his bid for the ‘Sunshine Double’ when he takes on his fellow American player Tommy Paul.

Best of the Rest
Three other matches take place on a couple of the courts around the ground on Monday with arguably the pick of them being the one between the exciting American player Jenson Brooksby and Roberto Bautista Agut. That one takes place over on Court 1 while on the Butch Buchholz Court another American youngster will look to make progress when Sebastian Korda takes on Miomir Kecmanovic. Two other unseeded players also meet when Lloyd Harris faces Yoshihito Nishioka.
Betting
I’m a little surprised that Sebastian Korda is the outsider in his match against Miomir Kecmanovic. Admittedly it wasn’t helpful that he had to go over three hours to beat Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the previous round but it isn’t like he is backing that up the next day and he is young enough to have recovered from that. He has been playing some good tennis which is the most important thing and I think he can go toe to toe with Kecmanovic.
If this match had taken place a couple of months ago the American would have been a clear favourite and although his Serbian opponent has found some form in the last couple of weeks I’m still not convinced there is much between the two men. With a little more composure Korda would have taken care of Rafael Nadal in Indian Wells last week and that is probably the best line of form either of these two players have. At odds against I’ll take the American here.
