India tied up the ODI series with Australia in Adelaide in midweek so the two sides will play out a decider in the final match of the tour at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday with the tourists looking to claim the spoils in all three series.
India have already won the T20 series and the Tests so they will be going for a hat trick here. Australia have Sri Lanka to come and would love a morale boost courtesy of a victory in this match and series.
Australia
Not for the first time in recent history, Australia put up an ok score but no more than that. 15-20 years ago 298 would have been a wonderful score but on a good pitch that gets chased down nine times out of 10 these days and if they are going to get back to being the successful side they were those scores need to be elevated towards the 330 and beyond mark.
If they can’t take early wickets then unless they turn their good looking scores into match winning ones they are going to remain vulnerable and that is not a position they want to be in five months before the next World Cup gets underway. They basically need that x-factor in their game which at the minute just is not quite there.
India
Australia are not the only ones with an issue to resolve. India won the last match but once again their top four or five had to deliver the goods for them. They look an ordinary side once MS Dhoni has been and gone and that is something they will need to address if they are going to go to England and come out on top later in the year.
We saw in the previous match how India can keep scores down by taking wickets throughout the innings and that is one of their strengths. When you think they usually play two leg spinners but conditions don’t really cater for that here then there might be even more to come from them heading towards the World Cup.
Team News
Australia have confirmed that Adam Zampa and Billy Stanlake will come in for Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Lyon. The former has pulled up lame with a back issue while the latter hasn’t offered enough in the series to date.
I wouldn’t expect India to make any changes after winning in the previous match, unless there is a last minute injury or illness or something happens on the morning of the game or something like that.

Betting
Although this is a big ground it isn’t necessarily a low scoring one and I think the runs line for the match could just be a touch on the low side at 550.5. India are very comfortable at chasing but they are rotten at defending a score so you’ve got to think whoever bats second will have every chance of winning the contest.
With that in mind we are looking for the team that bats first to make 275 in order to win the match and I think that is perfectly possible as well. India’s last three scores on this ground have been 295 or above and Australia are no strangers to scoring big here either. Both bowling attacks look a bit jaded so I’m happy to be on the over here.
