There is one match in the Big Bash League on Monday and it is a repeat of the final of last season when the Adelaide Strikers play host to the Hobart Hurricanes, with the visitors looking to gain revenge for being beaten to the title a year ago.
Although the Hurricanes will be looking to get one over their opponents, this particular contest is a much bigger one for the home side Adelaide as they are in a right tussle to make it into the top four come the end of the campaign.
Adelaide Strikers
The Strikers go into the match just outside the top four spots in the table and with us being into the second half of the campaign already, they need to find some consistency in their performances and their results if they are going to have a shot at defending their title. They appear to have slipped into a win-loss-win-loss sequence, which while that means that are due to win here, is a run that needs to be ended soon.
The big inconsistency for the Strikers so far this season has come with the bat where they have been very good or awful with little in between. I’m actually surprised by that because they have a good bowling attack that can defend par totals and slightly beyond. They go into this match off the back of being skittled for 97 in their last game, the second time in six outings they’ve been shot out for double figures.
Hobart Hurricanes
There are no such issues for the Hobart Hurricanes, and indeed they look to be cruising into the semi-finals where already they are going to have to fall apart not to be hosting their last four clash. The Hurricanes have only lost once all season but what should serve then strongly is the fact they were really pushed in Perth last time out. To win from an unlikely position will give them even more confidence than they already had.
It isn’t rocket science but the reason why Hobart are not struggling is because their batting has been so amazing. They are regularly getting past 160 with the bat and that is the mark where sides are up against it when they play them, because the Hurricanes’ attack is good enough to be defending those totals. They are one of few teams in the tournament who aren’t relying on one or two batsmen to deliver.
Team News
The Adelaide Strikers get two of their stars back for this match with Alex Carey and Billy Stanlake returning from international duty but they lose Travis Head and Peter Siddle to Australia. Michael Cormack comes into the squad.
The Hobart Hurricanes remain unchanged in their squad for this match and it would be something of a surprise if they make any changes to their starting XI too given the form they have been in without making switches.

Betting
I think the Hobart Hurricanes will win this match but if there is one side I respect against them it is the Adelaide Strikers so I’m a little reluctant to get involved in the match betting, especially with this ground being quite tough to defend with the short square boundaries and things. I will go with one in the side markets however.
That comes in the form of the sixes where a 10.5 line looks very low when you take into account the power on show in both batting line ups. Alex Carey and Colin Ingram bring huge power for the Strikers while the top six of the Hurricanes can all belt a big ball, not that it needs to be big for most parts of this ground. I expect something of a high scoring match here and with that should come more than 10.5 sixes.
