Big Bash League 2018-19 – Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder Betting Preview

The offering from the Big Bash League on Thursday comes from The Gabba as the Brisbane Heat take on the Sydney Thunder in yet another match which could have big implications on who might make it into the semi-finals.

The Heat go into this match on six points from their seven matches while the Thunder have played an extra game and have an extra victory as a result so both will be keen to win here and will know that losing will be a real setback.

Brisbane Heat

It is now three wins from their last four matches for the Brisbane Heat, after taking a little while to warm up this season. I’ve mentioned in previous matches what they difference has been in recent matches. Quite simply, they have been scoring big runs and when any side does that in Australian conditions the opposition are under pressure.

Brisbane have seen their big players come to the party in recent times and they are going to need that trend to continue if they are going to push on and make it into the latter stages of the tournament. In two of their last three matches they have scored 185 or more batting first and if that continues they are going to be tough to beat.

Sydney Thunder

The Sydney Thunder stopped a run of two defeats in a row in their last match when they picked p an important win over the Adelaide Strikers. That was vital not just because they were entering into a bit of a slump but also because the defending champions are very much rivals for their spot in the top four.

The fact they won by such a margin will do them no harm either in terms of their net run rate. If the Thunder keep putting up big runs then they are going to be tough to stop because they have literally every single base covered in their bowling attack. It is hard to go under the radar with the talent they have in their squad but they might just be doing it even though they are third in the table.

Team News

The Heat have been forced into a couple of changes to their squad. Matt Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne are both playing for the Cricket Australia XI so they miss out and will be replaced by Sam Heazlett and Mark Steketee.

Ryan Gibson has been called into the Sydney Thunder squad for the first time this season. He comes in for batsman Jason Sangha who has been named in that same Cricket Australia XI for the match with Sri Lanka.

Betting

I think we are due a high scoring match from both sides in this competition and I’m expecting it to come here. I say that because we have seen a number of one-sided matches and low scoring games recently but the better venues are beginning to be used from here on in which should see the cricket getting better.

In the reverse fixture between these two, the Heat batted first and piled up 186/8 and the rain came fairly early into the Thunder’s innings but that showed the potential for a decent score to be put up first and if that does happen then you would expect the 321.5 run line for this match to be covered without too many problems. Both sides are going well with the bat. I like the over here.
