There are two matches left of 2018 in the Big Bash League and the first of them comes from Launceston as the league leaders Hobart Hurricanes take on the former champions Perth Scorchers in a repeat of the semi-final from last season.
The Hurricanes won that match before losing the final and they will be out to replicate that success here but the Scorchers will be looking for revenge as they look to get back to even for their campaign so this shouldn’t be short of competitiveness.
Hobart Hurricanes
It has been a perfect season for the Hobart Hurricanes so far as they have won all of their three matches and as I pointed out ahead of their previous win they have won with the ball dominating for them and with the batsmen getting them over the line. That is never a bad thing. They were made to battle last time out too and I always think that is good if you come through it.
The only slight issue that I have with the Hurricanes here is they are giving up a home game for a match which will be more neutral in terms of familiarisation to the conditions but if they can adjust to that then based on what we’ve seen so far this season they have going to take a lot of beating in this match.
Perth Scorchers
After a dodgy couple of opening matches this term, the Perth Scorchers finally got off the mark in their last match when they overwhelmed the Adelaide Strikers right from the start of the match and from about the eighth over when they bowled they were never going to lose that game. That should give them a lot of confidence heading into this one.
We know all about the Scorchers’ bowling attack. Whether it is the best in the competition or not is an argument for the pubs and clubs but it is mighty good and strong and so if their batsmen can arrive to the party then they are all set up for plenty of success. That batting does need to improve though if they are going to trouble the better teams in the tournament.
Team News
Hobart Hurricanes are expected to name the same side which overcame the Sydney Thunder earlier in the week. Jake Doran and David Moody are still waiting for their debuts but it isn’t expected to come in this one.
Cameron Bancroft is in the Perth Scorchers squad for the first time in the tournament after his ban for the sandpaper shenanigans is now over. Plenty of focus will be on him, especially with both Marsh brothers away with Australia still.

Betting
I respect the Perth Scorchers bowling attack as you have to do when you bet on this competition but I’m less convinced by their batting at present and I happen to think that the Hobart Hurricanes’ batting can still make runs even allowing for how strong this Perth bowling line up is so it is the home side I like here.
It is easy to forget that Hobart have a decent bowling attack themselves with some really solid options at the key stages of the innings and with this Scorchers batting line up not yet firing on all cylinders and Bancroft likely to need a match to deal with the attention I think the Hurricanes are the ones to be on here.
