There might be an ODI on Friday but that doesn’t mean that the Big Bash League has a day off. It is a big day for the league leaders Hobart Hurricanes as they travel west to take on the Perth Scorchers in a repeat of the semi-final of last season.
Hobart can extend their lead to four points at the top of the table if they come out on top at the Optus Stadium while the Perth Scorchers can get themselves right back in the playoff picture if they bag the points.
Perth Scorchers
After a horrible beginning to the season, the Perth Scorchers are suddenly beginning to find a bit of a groove. They have won their last two matches and in a weird world they have done it without two or three of their better players who are on international duty with Australia. With them coming back shortly, a win here would really set the Scorchers up nicely for the matches to come.
The big difference in their recent form has been the fact that they have finally started to score runs. In saying that, it is only really a couple of players who have scored big runs but bits and pieces around that is often enough to take a normal score to a big one, especially on a ground with the dimensions that this one has.
Hobart Hurricanes
Apart from one match this season has been pretty serene for the Hobart Hurricanes and even at this early stage they are only a couple of wins away from securing their spot in the semi-final and something quite bizarre would have to happen for them not to be at home in the last four too. They have won six of their seven matches and haven’t really been troubled in any of them.
Hobart have been clinical and brutal with the bat at the same time and in many ways because of the fireworks they have delivered with the willow, their bowling has kind of gone under the radar, which is pretty amazing when you think they have the likes of Jofra Archer, James Faulkner, Johan Botha and others in their resources.
Team News
Ashton Agar has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament with a broken finger so Will Bosisto comes in for him. The Marsh Brothers, Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff remain on international duty.
Hobart Hurricanes have been forced to make a change to their squad with Caleb Jewell coming into it for Jake Doran who is away with the Cricket Australia XI. Both he and David Moody will be looking for their BBL bows.

Betting
Ashton Agar’s injury leaves a bit of a whole in the Perth Scorchers side for this match and as a result I’ll go with the Hobart Hurricanes in this one. They can win matches with the bat and with the ball so no matter what this Perth wicket does they look to have all bases covered and should be able to tick all the necessary boxes.
Perth went very well last time out but I’m still a bit wary that only two of their batsmen have more than 115 runs in the tournament or a 111 strike rate so if either or both of those were to fail it is easy to see the Scorchers struggling in this match. I don’t see Hobart having those issues so it is the visitors for me.
