Two sides who know what it is like to lift the Big Bash League trophy meet in the second half of the double header in the tournament on Tuesday, when the Sydney Sixers take on the Adelaide Strikers at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
This is a big match for the defending champions Adelaide. They are probably now in a position whereby they have to win all of their remaining matches if they are going to make it into the semi-final. Sydney are in a much better position than them and they will want to enhance that here.
Sydney Sixers
If the Sixers needed a confidence boost to take into their final three matches then they received it in the form of a dominant and emphatic victory over the table topping Hobart Hurricanes in their previous match. They were awesome with the bat and that is something that bodes very well for them over the remainder of the campaign.
We’ve seen throughout the season that they have a bowling attack that can stand up to most in this competition and with their batting on form as well, and with a bit of depth in it suddenly, the Sixers have to be earmarked as potential champions. They do still need two wins from three matches to make the semi-finals but they look equipped to be hard to beat from here on in.
Adelaide Strikers
The defending champions have picked a terrible time to lose three matches on the spin and they know if they don’t end that run here their title defence will end at the conclusion of the regular season. If there is a positive from losing three on the bounce then it comes in the form of not having to look too deep to see where they have been going wrong.
In those three matches they have scored 97, 154/5 and 123 and those are not totals which win matches very often. Putting it simply, they have to get some batsmen in form and deliver big scores quickly. If they can do that then they continue to show that they have the bowling class to deliver the goods so the onus really is on their batsmen to come good.
Team News
As expected, Sydney Sixers have named an unchanged squad from the one which thrashed the Hobart Hurricanes last time out. It would be something of a surprise if they make any changes to the team as well.
Adelaide Strikers have made one switch to their squad for this contest. They bring Peter Siddle back into their ranks at the expense of Wes Agar. They remain without Travis Head who is away with Australia still.

Betting
I’m surprised that bookmakers have this one as close as they do. I say that because the Sydney Sixers look in much the better form of the two teams, which is reflected in the balance that they have within their team. The other reason why I’m surprised is because the Sixers have already done a bit of a job on the Strikers this season.
They won the reverse meeting between the two chasing down 150 with 10 balls remaining and their batting has kicked on from there while the Strikers’ unit has got progressively weaker. You always have to respect the Adelaide bowling attack but the Sixers can mix it with anyone with the ball. The extra batting form of the Sydney outfit makes me think they are the ones to be with in this match.
