There is one Big Bash League match on Thursday and it comes from the Sydney Cricket Ground where the Sydney Sixers play host to the Melbourne Stars in a game which sees both sides eager for a victory.
Both teams lost their last match which will make winning this one all the more important. Given that they are yet to win this term it is probably a bigger clash for the Stars than the Sixers but even so both teams will want the win here.
Sydney Sixers
The Sydney Sixers will have been disappointed to lose last time out, as they would be to lose any match, but to lose to their city rivals will have irked them even more so they should be out to deliver something of a response in this match. If there is a good thing to come out of the defeat then it is that the Sixers don’t need to look too far to see where they are going wrong.
If they are going to be major players this season then it is imperative that they start to score runs at the top of the order. In both matches they have had more than useful cameos down the innings so if they can set those up with a nice platform then they are going to win more than they lose. That is because they have the bowling attack to be extremely useful.
Melbourne Stars
I get the feeling that this is a big match for the Melbourne Stars. That is probably an obvious thing to say given that they have lost both of their matches in the tournament to date but then when you remember back to the struggles of last season, were they to not win here this could be a campaign that very easily gets away from them once again.
The Stars really need a complete performance if they are going to get anywhere both in this match and the tournament. They haven’t really put anything of note together yet and the longer that goes the more the season is only going to go one way. They are doing well enough with the ball so it is about time that one of their internationals stands up with the bat.
Team News
Sydney Sixers have made one change to their squad but despite their defeat last time out they are expected to be unchanged unless there is a late injury or an illness that hasn’t been determined since their squad was announced.
Melbourne Stars will be able to take advantage of the fact that Peter Handscomb was not selected for Australia in the latest Test match. He has been released to feature for them in this match and will bolster a failing batting line up.

Betting
I’m tempted to back the Melbourne Stars to win this match but I’d like to see them pick up a victory or put in a complete performance at the very least before I trust them enough to get involved in them winning but there is one market which I think they can dominate and come out on top in.
That is the most sixes market where I believe Melbourne Stars should come out on top. I mentioned in the previous Sydney Sixers match that they lack hitters and we saw that with them only clearing some pretty small ropes on one occasion and I’m not convinced they will fare a great deal better here. We’ve not seen the best of the Stars batting just yet but they have some huge hitters in their ranks and those strikers can clear the ropes the most.
