Big Bash League 2020-21 – Perth Scorchers vs Adelaide Strikers Tips and Betting Preview

The Big Bash League season takes in the Adelaide Oval for the first time on Monday when the Adelaide Strikers compete in what is actually an away match for them such is the weird world that we live in at present. The Strikers face the Perth Scorchers.

The Scorchers are now the only team in the Big Bash without a win this season so they will be eager to put that right here. Adelaide Strikers haven’t been able to find much consistency with constant changes being forced to their side so they will be eager to win here.

Perth Scorchers

Although the Scorchers are yet to win a match this season, to be fair to them they have only played three games which is at least one fewer than every other team in the competition. While they are still looking for their first win there is a case to be made that they were on top of the Melbourne Stars when the rain came in that match and they almost had the Sydney Thunder in their last game so actually their performances have been better than their results have suggested in the main.

In an ideal world their batsmen will put up more runs and it will be interesting to see how they line up here with their powerful English duo free from quarantine and ready to come into the side. You would think that will naturally give them the improvement they would like with the bat, and if they do get that then there is no fears that they still have the bowlers to get the job done when it comes to having the ball in hand.

Adelaide Strikers

After four matches the Adelaide Strikers have now won two and lost two and while they almost threw their last outing away late on, they did get the job done against the Brisbane Heat and that gives them something to build on. With the competition rounding into Adelaide in time for New Year, the Strikers will be eager to find some consistency which can propel them further up the table and set them up for a top two finish and an easier route when the business end of the campaign comes around.

If the Strikers are going to move up the standings then they could do with putting a few more runs on the board. That is likely to come with them getting key players back and if they can put those runs up then in the main we’ve seen already that their bowlers can deliver success. I say in the main because their attack almost threw the game against the Heat away but they came good when it really mattered to get over the line. Holding their nerve is one of the strengths of the Strikers historically.

Team News

Perth Scorchers will be delighted to have both Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone available. It will be interesting to see if they push Colin Munro down one to three and open with the English pair. If they do then Cameron Bancroft could take the gloves.

Adelaide Strikers are sweating over the fitness of their kingpin Rashid Khan with the official line that he will be given as long as possible to prove that he can play. One piece of good news is that Alex Carey is available after being forced to miss the last game through quarantine reasons.

Betting

I like the Perth Scorchers to hit the most sixes as my bet for this match. To be fair I wouldn’t have gone against it had the English pair of Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone not turned up but the fact they are here only makes me more confident with this one. Adelaide Strikers are struggling for big hits and this is nothing new. They are traditionally not the biggest hitters because their batting line up is always at least one genuine batsman light. Their middle order in this series hasn’t really got going.

That isn’t the case for the Perth Scorchers. In Colin Munro, Ashton Turner and Mitch Marsh they had three clean hitters of the cricket ball, while we’ve already seen Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson down the order turn into Reggie Biffington but when you add the brute power of Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone to that this is a powerful Scorchers order all of a sudden. Perth have won the last three sixes battles between these two, 10-5 and 9-6 on this ground over the last two seasons and 10-6 in Perth last term. That run can continue here.
