The Big Bash League heads to the Gold Coast on Tuesday when the Brisbane Heat take on the defending champions Sydney Sixers at the Carrara Oval with both sides looking for a win which will see them move closer to a spot at finals week.
The Heat currently occupy the last of the playoff places and a win here will move them further clear of the chasers behind them. The Sixers aren’t really worried about making the playoffs, they want two bite at making the final. A win here takes them back to the top.
Brisbane Heat
The Brisbane Heat will be looking for successive victories for the first time this season in this match. That is because they were victors against the Hobart Hurricanes last time out. Credit should go to them for winning that match because losing the way they did in the game before against the Sixers can sometimes leave a lasting effect. It didn’t and now they get the chance to show what they should have done in Sydney last week when they allowed the Sixers to steal one from them.
The Heat still aren’t batting line they would want to in order to make matches easier for them but what they are doing is scrapping very well with the ball. If their batters can come into line, and with Fakhar Zaman waiting in the wings later in the week you would think they will, then there is still a decent finish to the season to be had for the Brisbane outfit. This isn’t a free hit for them but the destination of their season won’t be determined by how they go against the Scorchers and the Sixers but rather those around and below them in the table.
Sydney Sixers
The Sydney Sixers should have lost the reverse meeting between these two when they were 47-8 chasing 106 to win but the fact that they got over the line in that match will give them a feeling of invincibility moving forward. To be fair the Sixers might have looked unstoppable to the other teams anyway but there must be a real air of confidence going through their changing room right now. They need to make sure that doesn’t turn into complacency but while they are not top of the league you wouldn’t think that is a problem.
The Sixers do just need to be a little careful with the bat. It has been a few matches since their top order has got them off to a flying start and while they bat deep they can’t keep going to the well with their lower order. They wouldn’t want to be relying on them in a knockout match so if the top order can find some runs between now and the end of the season it would be good. They are going to be forced into a change in personnel at the end of the week which won’t make things any easier.

Team News
The Brisbane Heat have named an unchanged squad for this match. Fakhar Zaman doesn’t arrive until later in the week so it might well be that the Heat are unchanged for this encounter barring a late injury or illness.
The Sydney Sixers have also named an unchanged squad. We had the bat flip for their washed out game with the Renegades the other night and Steve O’Keefe was back in the side while Jackson Bird was on the list as an X-Factor.
Betting
I don’t think it was the greatest pitch that these two played on at the Sydney Cricket Ground last week but I’m still not convinced that there will be another 115 runs in this match. The only match held here so far this season offered up a first innings score of 140 although that was the Melbourne Renegades who were in action then. Brisbane chased that score down with 19 balls to spare but I’m still not convinced this is going to be a run fest.
Brisbane have suddenly found their mojo with the ball and there is lack of runs from some of those within the top four of the Sydney Sixers in recent matches. Sydney are always good with the ball and Brisbane haven’t really batted well all season and are chopping and changing their order in an attempt to find something. That makes me think the bowlers will have the edge over the batters and with that in mind I like under 325.5 runs in this one.
