There is one match in the Big Bash League on Tuesday and it comes from the Adelaide Oval where the Sydney Thunder get the chance to right a serious wrong when they take on the Adelaide Strikers who embarrassed them last week.
The Strikers bowled the Thunder out for just 15 runs when these two met in Sydney last week so revenge will be very much on the minds of the visitors but having won their opening two matches the Strikers can really put a marker down if they win a third game on the trot.
Adelaide Strikers
The Adelaide Strikers have won both of their matches to start the season. They have seen off both of the Sydney sides and looked impressive in both games. What was impressive about their win against the Sydney Thunder wasn’t just the margin of it or the fact that they skittled their opponents, it was the fact that they recovered from a tricky situation with the bat to put an acceptable score on the board, one which was never a danger of being chased down.
We knew this Adelaide Strikers bowling unit looked good on paper heading into the tournament but they have performed even better than expected and could hold claims for being the best in the competition. Their batting is only going to improve the longer the tournament goes on when their two Test stars are back so this has all the makings of being a flourishing campaign for the former champions as they bid to reclaim the title.
Sydney Thunder
It is becoming increasingly apparent that the opening win for the Sydney Thunder was a huge result in their campaign because in truth there was nothing convincing about it. They really should have lost that match in the end and had they done so then they would be going into this one 0-3 for the season and with their net run rate in tatters after the beating they took at the hands of the Strikers in the second game of the three they have played.
The Thunder batted the best they have done all season in their latest defeat to the Melbourne Renegades but their opponents soon made their score look average in that game as well so the Thunder really need to do some work with their batting which isn’t going to be helped by the fact that they might have lost their captain for the remainder of the tournament due to the injury he picked up in the last match. It goes from bad to worse for the Thunder.

Key Players
We flagged Henry Thornton up as the key player in the last game between these two and he duly delivered on that with a spell of five wickets for three runs to become the leading wicket taker in the tournament. If he can rip a few poles out early in the innings here bad memories will flood back for the Thunder.
Rilee Rossouw offered nothing in the first two matches but he came to the party in Melbourne last time out. With Jason Sangha now missing the remainder of the tournament someone in the top three will need to go even bigger. The South African could be the man to do it.
Betting
When you consider what happened in the last game between these two I’m a little surprised that the run line here is up at 320.5. Clearly I’m not expecting the Sydney Thunder to be skittled for 15 again but if we go back to before that happened, Adelaide Strikers had only made 139/9 in their innings in that match. I suspect the pitch in Adelaide will play a bit better than that one did but the pitch they played on wasn’t exactly a minefield.
The simple reality here is that these two bowling units are pretty strong and certainly in the case of the Sydney Thunder batting without their captain Jason Sangha their batting isn’t as good as their bowling. This is a Strikers bowling attack which is going to be notoriously hard to get away this season but should they take a couple of early wickets fears of a repeat of what happened on Friday will come to the fore for the Sydney side. When you put it all together I like under 320..5 runs here.
