The Caribbean Premier League pays a final visit to Guyana on Tuesday night when the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the St Lucia Zouks in what is a really big game for the visitors.
Guyana have flown the field so far in the tournament and another win will put them strongly in place for a spot in the playoffs while the St Lucia Zouks are just starting to get left behind due to their lack of games so far in the tournament so they’ll be eager to win here.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Guyana’s good run this season was halted by the Trinbago Knight Riders last time out in the one time in the tournament where their bowling got carted but they are in a good position and don’t need to panic just yet and a win here will have made for a solid home leg of the competition.
The Amazon Warriors have a bowling attack which is well suited to these conditions but they have surprised me with the bat on this ground. I thought they might really struggle with the sluggish wickets not really suiting Martin Guptill or Chris Lynn but to their credit they have adapted nicely.
St Lucia Zouks
The Zouks have only played twice in the tournament so far and having played on the opening night of the competition their inactivity since has been quite pronounced which isn’t ideal for them really. They might have needed a few days off though having taken a bit of a beating in their last match.
On good wickets you would think St Lucia have the batting to take any side apart but whether they can bat on the tired and sluggish wickets will be interesting and might well be the decisive point on if they qualify of if they don’t. Their attack will need to adjust to these conditions as well.
Betting
I fear for the Zouks here. I’m not convinced that they have the attack to compete on this wicket. It isn’t a track that is going to suit the likes of Morne Morkel or even Darren Sammy but what concerns me the most is their batsmen – Shane Watson, Mike Hussey, Darren Sammy and David Miller – all like pace on the ball and either being able to hit through the line or clonk it to cow corner.
They’re not going to get those conditions here and you need a classy operator to repel those conditions. We saw Trinbago have that in Hashim Amla but I’m not sure there is an Amla in this St Lucia side so I’m with the home team here.
Guyana Amazon Warriors had schedule issues when they lost their last match but they aren’t here for this match and having played three times on this square they know exactly what conditions they are getting and how to manage them. I expect them to end the Guyana leg of the campaign with a win.
