CONCACAF Gold Cup 2023 – Tuesday 4th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup comes to a close on Tuesday night when the final games of Group C and Group D will be played out. That means that by the end of the evening we will know the line up for the quarter finals.

We already know that Panama are through from these groups but it is a big night for the likes of Costa Rica and Canada who have used up all their wiggle room and must get a result if they are going to progress to the knockout stage.

Group D

The first of the two groups to conclude on Tuesday night is Group D where we could be in for a really exciting set of games. All eyes will be on Canada as they go in search of a first win in the competition when they take on the minnows of the section in Cuba. Canada will be through with a win but they are out with any other result. Cuba have already been eliminated. The other match sees Guadeloupe taking on Guatemala with the former knowing that a draw is all they need to go through. A win secures a quarter final spot for Guatemala but they will be through if they match Canada’s result.

Group C

The last of the group action comes from Group C where we already know that Panama have qualified for the quarter final and they only need a draw in their final match against Martinique to secure top spot in the section and a date with Qatar in the quarter final. Martinique need to win that match to ensure that they are in the quarter finals but they will also be through if the other match is a draw. That other match sees Costa Rica needing to win and hope that Canada beat Martinique in order to progress. Costa Rica conclude their group stage with El Salvador, who themselves can qualify with a win should Martinique lose.

Betting

We have the potential for one of those crazy matches like we saw between Honduras and Haiti over the weekend on Tuesday night. That comes in the form of the match between Costa Rica and Martinique. Costa Rica usually like to set up a little defensively and try and either pinch something on the break or via a set piece but they have to win this game so the onus is going to be on them to open up a little and go after the goal they have to score to be able to progress.

Should Costa Rica get that goal then Martinique would then need to reply in kind in order to have their qualification hopes back in their own hands and they would need to push some men forward in order to get that. To be fair to Martinique, they haven’t had any issue sending men forward in this tournament anyway so that isn’t against the way they play their football. Were Martinique to open the scoring Costa Rica would need two to have a chance of going through and would really need to push the button. We don’t see too many high scoring Costa Rica matches but this one where the situation dictates it might have to be. These two played twice in the recent Nations League with 2-1 and 2-0 wins for Costa Rica which bodes well. I’ll take over 2.5 here.
