CONCACAF Gold Cup 2023 – Wednesday 28th June Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The second set of matches in the CONCACAF Gold Cup begin on Wednesday evening when we head back to Group A for what could be a pivotal night in this section after the dominant force of USA slipped up in their opener.

They will be looking to get back on track in the second game of the evening but before then Jamaica will look to build on their result against the States when they host the only winner in the group to date. It is nicely setup for an intriguing night of football.

Jamaica vs Trinidad & Tobago (00.30 – Viaplay Sports 1)

The opening match of the night pits two of the Caribbean nations against each other when Jamaica look to build on their 1-1 draw with USA in their first game when they take on Trinidad & Tobago who will be through to the knockout stages if they win this match.

Trinidad and Tobago will know this is the pivotal game for them. They have USA in their final match and if the States need something from that one to secure their own qualification then the Soca Warriors are likely to be bang up against it so their best chance of securing a spot in the next round might come here. Jamaica will feel that they have done all the hard work in this section having held USA, even if there will be a tinge of disappointment that they conceded an equaliser late on. These two met in a couple of friendlies back in March where one finished goalless and the other resulted in a 1-0 win for Trinidad & Tobago but those matches were not in an official international window so Jamaica were without a large number of their English based contingent and I think that will be the key here. From those matches Jamaica have some heavy artillery to come into their side in all departments whereas those entering the T&T team offer nothing like the same top level quality or consistency. I expected Jamaica to build their way into the tournament with their star players probably needing a competitive hit out together to get familiar with each other. Having had that I expect to see the best of Jamaica and with that I think their star players get the job done in St Louis.

Saint Kitts and Nevis vs USA (02.30 – Viaplay Sports 1)

The second match of the night will have all eyes on the defending champions and host nation USA when they look to pick up their first win of the competition against a Saint Kitts and Nevis side who pretty much have nothing to lose now.

After defeat to Trinidad & Tobago in their opening match, the chances of Saint Kitts and Nevis progressing from this group are pretty remote now so they can just enjoy the last two games and look to cause some angst among the two better teams in this group. This match is all about USA. After slipping up against Jamaica they certainly can’t afford another sloppy result in this one. I don’t think too many will expect USA to slip up here but it isn’t just about winning for them. They need to put out a resounding performance and tell the other leading nations in the competition that even though they have left a number of their heavy hitters at home for this tournament, they still have a group of personnel who can do some damage in the event. I don’t think we can consider anything but a USA win here but given the level of top personnel they are missing in this competition I’m not really that interested in taking them to cover big handicaps even though I would expect a comfortable win. I’ll sit this one out.
