Preview

We have a good mixture of all-MLS matches and MLS vs Liga MX matches on Saturday night with the pick of the games being the one which sees Inter Miami beginning their title defence when they go up against the Mexican side Puebla in a game which is going to have a lot of attention on it. Chivas are probably the biggest of the Mexican names on show on Saturday night as they go up against the San Jose Earthquakes with the other two games featuring Mexican teams seeing Atlas travelling to take on the Houston Dynamo and New England Revolution playing host to Mazatlan.

The three MLS matches all look pretty tasty as well with the pick of them probably the one between New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC where both sides will be hoping that the Leagues Cup can help them rediscover their best form. Philadelphia Union are another in that boat and they host a Charlotte FC side who are going pretty well this season while the other match comes from the west where St Louis City SC will be looking for a pick-me-up when they take on FC Dallas.

Betting

I think goals are going to be the order of the day for me for the majority of this competition. The first staging of it was very high scoring and we saw nothing on Friday night to suggest that is going to change and the obvious starting point is the match between Puebla and Inter Miami. Miami are defending the title but they won’t just want to defend it they will want to do it in style so I don’t see them changing their patterns of play. There is likely to be no Lionel Messi for this match but Miami have more than enough depth to account for that. Puebla are one of the weaker sides in Liga MX and concede goals for fun but they will quickly find out that the Miami defence is anything but watertight so they can score here especially with the former Vancouver striker Lucas Cavallini in decent touch. Over 3 looks a solid bet here.

The other bet that I like comes in the match between Chivas and San Jose Earthquakes where there will be a well-known face in the Mexican side for the MLS side to face as Cade Cowell returns to the scene of where he broke through. He isn’t the only former MLS player that Chivas have in their artillery as Chicharito is also in their ranks and as such I am expecting to see goals here. San Jose matches in the MLS have been full of goals all season and I don’t see why that is suddenly going to change here. The good thing about San Jose is they have a front four that can rival anything in either league when they are on it. Chivas have started the new Liga MX season in good touch and with this match being played at Levi’s Stadium where a huge crowd is expected I expect two entertaining teams to entertain and cover a 2.75 goal line.
