CPL 2017 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Barbados Tridents Betting Preview

There is just the one match in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday night and it is the penultimate game in this CPL season in Guyana as the Guyana Amazon Warriors go in search of a much needed win when they host the Barbados Tridents.

This really is a huge game for the home side. If they lose they will fall four points behind the top four with just three matches left. A win for Barbados would all but seal their play-off berth with their home leg to come.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Warriors will have headed to their home ground looking to kick on in the tournament but back-to-back defeats have left them with just one win in six games in the competition and another defeat could eliminate them from it. That should focus their minds but they have to back up a performance 24hrs after a loss which is never easy.

If Guyana are going to win this match then they are going to have to find some batting mite especially on this sluggish wicket. They have an attack that is solid enough for these conditions although even then they took a bit of a beating against Trinbago Knight Riders on Saturday. An improvement all-round is needed.

Barbados Tridents

The Tridents head to Guyana off the back of a disappointing defeat last time out. Although St Kitts and Nevis were ahead when the rain came down there was no guarantees that they would have gone on to win. That means this has turned into a big game for them too although they do still have their home leg to come.

If they can win this match then with four matches at the Kensington Oval to play they could gatecrash the top two yet which would give them an easier path through to the final, as they bid to regain the title. Overall they need to improve with the bat but they have the personnel to do that though.

Team News

Guyana Amazon Warriors did indeed bring in an extra batsman for their last match and that didn’t really work so I would imagine we will see them play around with their order here.

Barbados Tridents may look to get another spinner into their side if they can although they do have the option of Shoaib Malik on what is likely to be another sluggish track at Providence.

Betting

We have seen in the first two matches here how betting is not the easiest on this ground and bookmakers have been quick to react to the sluggish surface which is not ideal either so there is just the one bet I like here.

That is for the Barbados Tridents to hit the most sixes. The likes of Dwayne Smith, Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard can all bash a mighty ball no matter how the wicket is playing but the Amazon Warriors don’t really have anyone of that ilk apart from Martin Guptill but he very much likes the ball coming onto the bat.

We’ve seen Jamaica and Trinbago hit more sixes than the home side on this ground already this week and I think the even money on Barbados to do the same looks a big price.
