CPL 2017 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Barbados Tridents Betting Preview

There is one match in the Caribbean Premier League on Friday night as the tournament rolls into St Kitts for the first time. The game sees the high flying St Kitts and Nevis Patriots taking on the Barbados Tridents in what should be a really good contest.

The Patriots will move second on their own with a win here while the Tridents can join an increasing band of sides on six points should they prove victorious so there is plenty to play for in the match.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The Patriots lost their 100% record last time out and that will have disappointed them because that was a match against the Trinbago Knight Riders that they were well in control of and had their held their catches they would have won that match. Although they went down I don’t think they need to be overly concerned.

To come so close to winning without a key player in Evin Lewis was big too. When you think Chris Gayle never really did much either there is a whole lot more to come from the St Kitts side and now they are on home soil we should see them turn it on a little more from here on in. That spells danger for the four sides they face.

Barbados Tridents

Just like their opponents in this match the Barbados Tridents lost their last game against the Trinbago Knight Riders. I don’t think they need to be overly concerned by that defeat either given that they just ran into a Sunil Narine storm. When players like him come off there isn’t a lot you can do.

We’ve seen Barbados look pretty well balanced in the tournament so far which is a positive especially with their home leg in the competition to come. Dwayne Smith hasn’t really got going to date either so there is more to come from the former champions, which is very much a positive for them.

Team News

Evin Lewis missed the last game through an illness but that was a few days ago so you would expect he has had time to recover and make it back into the squad for this one.

Barbados Tridents don’t really need to make changes unless they decide to change the set up of their side. Much relies on the performance of Kieron Pollard but he allows them to field an extra batsman if needed.

Betting

Warner Park is one of the better grounds in the West Indies and in many ways it is absolutely perfect for this tournament with its short boundaries and a wicket which is usually very good. That is why we quite often see sides batting second win matches on this ground and that bias negates my interest in a bet on the match outcome.

I certainly like the match runs line though which comes at 300.5. This is far too low in my eyes and is a result of matches we have seen on other grounds where the wicket isn’t as good as this one here and the boundaries are bigger. It should be said that St Kitts’ bowling attack is harder to get away than we would like but every match on the ground had more than 300 runs in it last year and I expect this one too as well.
