CPL 2018 – Barbados Tridents vs St Lucia Stars Betting Preview

We have a double header in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday and it begins with a clash between the bottom two of the tournament when the Barbados Tridents take on the St Lucia Stars at the Kensington Oval.

This is the final home match of the season for the Tridents and if they are to have any chance of making the play-offs they must win it. St Lucia Stars finish their season here and know that win, lose or draw they will exit the competition after this game.

Barbados Tridents

We keep on saying it but the Barbados Tridents just can’t find a batting line up that is going to deliver big runs. They are now really panicking with the bat. They are getting out in silly ways and in truth their order has been a bit of a shambles throughout the tournament so they need to click as one and very quickly.

The Tridents really need to win their last three matches to have a strong chance of making it through to the latter stages of the tournament. With that in mind it is imperative that they start batting as a unit. The worrying thing is the lack of runs has been putting pressure on the bowlers and that unit looks to be cracking a little as well.

St Lucia Stars

It has been another wretched season for the St Lucia Stars and as a result their fate has been known for quite some time. You would like to think that they will come out all guns blazing here though and showcase how good they could have been if they could have found some consistency. It would be a huge concern for the future if they are unable to do that.

Quite simply St Lucia have been found wanting in all departments in this tournament. They have rarely batted well as a unit and they have often been far too loose with the ball. If they perform in one discipline they have a mare with another and while all of that has been going on their fielding has been horrible, which is often the sign of the mentality of a side.

Team News

It is hard to know what the Tridents can do to solve their batting woes. I would like to see Nicholas Pooran come up the innings but whether that happens or not remains to be seen. They might decide to change their bowling attack after a couple got carted.

St Lucia Stars are in the same boat really. They have used do many options in this tournament that second guessing them is nigh on impossible. It might be that they decide to fill their side with seamers at the Kensington Oval.

Betting

Barbados Tridents are all the rage in this match but I’m not convinced I could take them especially at odds on. Their batting just gives me no confidence at all and the one thing we have seen from St Lucia Stars in this tournament is that their batting is more comfortable against the seamers and their own seam bowlers have a bit of heat.

With that in mind I just wonder if the Stars will be nicely suited to this track. My gut instinct is that they will be and so the further they drift in the run up to the contest the better the value on them will be. I’ll go against the early money and take the St Lucia Stars here.

The longer the season has gone on the more we have seen from Nicholas Pooran with the bat and so with that in mind I fancy the left hander to be the top scorer for the Tridents at a huge looking 12/1. He looked really good in top scoring against Guyana in the last game and that is not the first time he has impressed. He’s worth paying to see how he goes.
