CPL 2018 – Jamaica Tallawahs vs Barbados Tridents Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League is hosted in Florida for the final time this season on Wednesday night when the Jamaica Tallawahs go up against the Barbados Tridents in a match which has suddenly become really important for the ‘home’ side.

After a good start to the season the Tallawahs have suffered successive defeats in Florida and with this being their last designated home match of the competition they really need maximum points. Barbados have loads of games in hand but it looks like their loss to St Lucia last time out was given away ground to the rest of the pack.

Jamaica Tallawahs

It has been another frustrating time of things for the Tallawahs in Florida. Try as they might they just can’t seem to play their best cricket here and actually but for one fantastic partnership in the second match their batsmen have offered very little on this ground and been disappointing. They’ve had a few nights off to contemplate what they have been doing wrong though and need to come out fighting here.

It isn’t just their batsmen as a unit who need to deliver the goods, their bowlers need to come to the party as well. Andre Russell needs to step up to the plate as a captain as well. Some of his bowling changes have been questionable although as a young captain you accept mistakes. What cannot be accepted is them being repeated.

Barbados Tridents

We are still finding out about the Barbados Tridents in this tournament in many ways. While some sides have played six matches already they have only played two. The Tridents have their home matches coming up from the weekend so if they can win here and take a positive record into them they would be perfectly placed in the competition.

Heading into the competition Barbados looked strong with the ball but they were taken apart by St Lucia last time out which was both a surprise and probably a disappointment. Although they have plenty of depth in their batting they never got going with the bat in St Lucia either. It might just have been a bad day at the office which can happen, but they will not want another here.

Team News

It remains to be seen whether Johnson Charles is back for Jamaica. If he is then I would suggest Steven Taylor’s days in the side are numbered. Taylor might be replaced anyway regardless of Charles’ fitness.

Barbados Tridents have plenty that they could change after their previous match but I would imagine just for morale purposes they will give the same XI the chance to put things right unless there is an undetermined illness on injuries.

Betting

It is a tough one to bet on in terms of the match outcome this. Jamaica Tallawahs have a really poor record on this ground but Barbados Tridents just got thrashed by the worst team in the competition so they are not exactly an attractive proposition to take them on with. That leads me to the side markets for this one.

I’m expecting to see a lot of sixes in this match. Barbados didn’t hit many sixes in St Lucia but they didn’t do anything right there. They have plenty of power in their side to get after these short boundaries though. On the flip side pace on the ball seems to sit up and get carted on this pitch so Jamaica should enjoy this Barbados attack and that should lead to more than 16.5 sixes in this one. So far on this ground we’ve seen 18 sixes and 24 sixes and Jamaica’s top order haven’t got going yet. 17 should be in reach here.

I’ll also have another go at Nicholas Pooran in the top Barbados batsman market. He looked a million dollars in St Lucia but the escalating run rate and overs running out meant that he had to keep on going at balls he would normally respect. That might not be the case here though and if it isn’t then 15/2 should be a big price on him top scoring.
