The Caribbean Premier League stays at the Darren Sammy National Stadium on Wednesday night where the St Lucia Zouks take on the league leaders Guyana Amazon Warriors in a match which is big for the home side.
St Lucia picked up a win on Tuesday night to move into fourth spot and they can consolidate their position with another win here. Guyana are guaranteed to be in the top two at the end of the season so it is all about maintaining form for them.
St Lucia Zouks
Credit where it is due to the St Lucia Zouks, they produced a good all-round performance when they needed it the most on Tuesday night, but now they face the acid test of backing that up here. With Barbados only a point behind and having four matches left to play you would think they will cruise past the Zouks should the St Lucia outfit lose this game. A win for the Zouks will pile the pressure on the Tridents, and the hosts here will still have two matches left to build on their total.
The big thing for the Zouks against the Patriots on Tuesday evening was how well they batted. Admittedly St Kitts and Nevis had a mare inserting them even with the odd shower around but St Lucia took full advantage of their fortune and were never really under too much pressure at any stage despite a little wobble in the middle of their innings. They need something like that again here to have a chance.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
We are now at the stage of the season for the Guyana Amazon Warriors where they can’t really win. Of course it is good for them to maintain their 100% record and keep their confidence up and everything but at the same time it takes an insanely good side to win 12 consecutive matches in this format and the last thing they want to do is peak now and run out of gas for when it really matters. In truth the next four matches mean nothing to them.
The good thing for the Amazon Warriors is that they are looking supremely good with both parts of the game. They have been the best side in the competition with the ball and in the field in general by an absolute distance and as yet they have found no foe strong enough to stop them with the bat, even on the odd occasion when they have got themselves in a bit of a mess. A wonderful mix of brute power and nudging and nurdling makes them a good outfit in all conditions.
Team News
You would think that after a solid performance last time out the St Lucia Zouks will be unchanged, although it is never easy to back up an outing so soon so the odd change to their bowling attack shouldn’t be ruled out.
It will be interesting to see if Guyana Amazon Warriors use the remainder of the league phase to get game time into their squad or if they keep on pressing home their stranglehold on this competition. Ben Laughlin could get a game if it is the former route that they take.
Betting
I’m a little wary about betting on the match outcome in this match. St Lucia Zouks are backing up a day after their last game which I keep pointing out is never easy and the Guyana Amazon Warriors are playing for nothing now until the play-offs begin. That makes betting on the match itself very tough so I’ll head to the side markets for a bet on the game.
Of the 60 wickets that the Guyana Amazon Warriors could have taken this season, they have failed to get just three of them and have bowled their opponents out in their last four matches which is actually an insane record when you think about it. Here in St Lucia, the Zouks have taken 15 of the 20 wickets available to them and are generally looking much better with the ball. The consensus from those statistics is that between the two sides we’ll see more than 12.5 wickets.
