CPL 2022 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Lucia Kings Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the double header in the Caribbean Premier League on Saturday evening sees the bottom two in the table doing battle when the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the home side St Lucia Kings.

These two teams have played seven games in the tournament between them and have come out with just one win and whoever loses here will need to put a run together in order to get themselves back in the race for qualifying so there is enough on this.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

There would have been high hopes for the Guyana Amazon Warriors going into the campaign but three matches in and we haven’t really seen anything that suggests they are going to be major players in the competition. They have only played two matches which were completed and while they only went down in the final over of both of them, there were similar concerns in each of them and they will need to be addressed if they are to do anything positive this term.

The big issue is that they are not getting off to fast starts with the bat. That isn’t because of personnel or anything like that, it is a form thing but they load their side with all-rounders and big hitting ones at that and it is counterproductive for them to be coming in early. The other thing they need to address is the lack of a death bowler for the final over. Twice Romario Shepherd has bowled in that area of the game and twice he has been smashed to all parts.

St Lucia Kings

The St Lucia Kings were always going to be under the pressure of expectation this season after making it all the way through to the final a year ago. Whether that pressure is getting the better of them or it is simply they are not as good a team as they were last term only they will know but one win in their opening four matches is not the start to the season they would have been looking for. To be fair to the Kings though they have lost twice to the Barbados Royals who are on top of the table.

It might be that with the schedule easing up for them the Kings can crack on and push for a place back in the semi-finals once again. To be fair to St Lucia, they’ve not done a huge amount wrong in their three defeats. You could argue they were a few runs short in the two in which they posted a score and then they walked into an insane new ball spell in the other. I think it is just a case of being a little better at both ends of each innings.

Key Players

Guyana Amazon Warriors have no shortage of power at the back end of their innings so if they can just tick over in the first 10 overs without losing too many wickets they’ll be able to catch up later in the piece. Paul Stirling finding form would certainly help.

Tim David showed in the last match that he is slowly starting to come to the boil. He should get to go up against an average set of death bowlers in this match and if he does so then carnage could very quickly ensue.

Betting

These two sides bat so deep I can’t believe there isn’t going to be an ocean of runs in this match. We have seen throughout the campaign that the night matches tend to be higher scoring with dew an obvious factor in that. The pitch didn’t look to play too badly in the earlier game and with a bit of dew on it bringing the ball onto the bat I expect there to be plenty of runs in the surface. The other thing which will help the batters is the dew will negate the spin threat the two teams carry.

The runs line for this match sits at 310.5 which has been covered in every full 20 over night game in this tournament and I don’t see that trend changing here. The chasing sides tend to win at night so we need 155 in the first innings if that trend also continues and with both of these attacks guilty of leaking a bit of gas at the end I fancy that is a score that can’t just be reached but also surpassed. I like the over in this run line.
