CPL 2023 – Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Trinbago Knight Riders Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the Caribbean Premier League double header on Saturday will be a preview of the CPL 2023 Qualifier 1 match as the two sides who will compete in that battle it out when the Guyana Amazon Warriors take on the Trinbago Knight Riders.

These two teams are guaranteed to finish in the top two in the table at the end of the season so they will do battle next week for a place in the final of the competition so this is a chance for both of them to lay a marker down.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors won their opening home match but were unable to come out on top in their second one. The dew has probably played a huge part in both of their matches with them the beneficiary of it in the first game and it going against them in the second one. That first win secured their top two finish though and so I guess it was kind of inevitable that the edge might come off their performances. They will want to be on it here though.

If Guyana are going to lay a bit of a marker down on the Trinbago side then they are going to need to bowl well, particularly at the end of the innings. The chances are they will be up against some brutal hitters at the end of their bowling innings so the better they can bowl the better their chance will be. They could also do with pushing the boat out a little earlier with the bat because in the last couple of matches they have had plenty in the shed too late in the innings.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders come into this match off the back of three successive wins but they will know that the only team to beat them so far this term were the Guyana Amazon Warriors so they might have a little bit of revenge on their minds in this match. There are some aging players in this Trinbago side though so with a bigger match to come next week it will be interesting to see if they keep with a settled side or look to give the chance to others and a rest to those who need it.

The longer this competition has gone on the Knight Riders have improved with the bat and they are going to need to keep doing that if they want to get their hands back on this title. There has never been much of a concern over them with the ball but the dew has played a huge part in the two night matches we have seen in Guyana already and you wonder how they will cope if they have to bowl second with their spinners having a wet ball to handle.

Key Players

Romario Shepherd didn’t get much chance to show his worth with the bat in the previous game but he might go up the order both to do some damage here and also to get a hit out before the important games come along.

You get the feeling that Nicholas Pooran needs to keep his form high if the Trinbago Knight Riders are going to go all the way in this competition. There are a lot of left arm spinners and leg spinners left in the tournament so a left hander can do some damage to them.

Betting

The first match between these two was a big hitting contest and I fancy we are going to see something similar here. I think there is every chance that bowlers that have had a big workload in the competition get rested here and that would mean bowlers short of a gallop could come in and potentially be cannon fodder for two teams which are not short of big hitters. They tend to come in down the order when the ball could be wet and we could see some serious carnage in this match.

There is no competitive pressure on this game so both teams can just pin their ears back and look to clear the ropes and entertain and I expect the show stoppers on both of these sides to do exactly that. I wouldn’t want to bet on the match outcome because the dew is going to play a part in this match but the sixes line for this one is just 15.5. This is a fairly big ground but with bowlers losing control with the wet ball there is so much power to get the job done here.
