Big Matches

Three matches absolutely jump off the page when we look at the Saturday schedule with the first of those being the clash at Mercedes-Benz Stadium where two World Cup winners oppose each other when Atlanta United take on Inter Miami in a game which could have big implications in the Eastern Conference. Speaking of the East, arguably the two best teams in it meet at Subaru Park where the Philadelphia Union play host to the runaway Supporters’ Shield leaders FC Cincinnati. The other standout clash is the latest version of ‘El Trafico’ as the champions Los Angeles FC host their city rivals LA Galaxy.

Best of the Rest

There are plenty of other great games on show over the course of the night, many of which will have playoff implications in both Conferences. One of those is the Hudson River derby at Yankee Stadium where New York City FC take on New York Red Bulls. Charlotte FC host DC United with both teams looking to push for a top nine spot while Chicago Fire need to pick up a result from their trip to CF Montreal if they are going to remain in control of their own destiny. Minnesota United are tracking in the right direction and they host a Sporting Kansas City side who need a result to get their playoff hopes back on track.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the night and that comes in California but not in the ‘El Trafico’ clash. Instead it is the one between San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake where I am expecting to see goals scored. This feels like a big game for the Earthquakes with them without a win in four in MLS and going in the wrong direction, with other sides picking up form behind them and with matches running out San Jose need to get back to form.

Real Salt Lake aren’t going to be out of the playoffs this season but they will want to host two of the three games in the first round of the postseason so they too need to keep on winning. These two teams boast much better attacks than they do defences and I think that will make for an entertaining game, especially when you consider the need of the Earthquakes to make the most of a home match. The goal line for this one is 3 goals but that doesn’t feel like it is high enough.
