European Darts Grand Prix – Last 16 Matches Betting Preview

The European Darts Grand Prix comes to a close on Sunday with the last 16, the quarter finals, semi-finals and the final all played out in one bumper day of action in Sindelfingen and all eyes will be on Michael van Gerwen to see if he can land yet another title.

He will have plenty of top quality players taking him on over the course of the day though with all 16 men left in having hopes of winning the tournament which should make for an exciting finale. We can’t preview the whole of the remainder of the event but we can look at the last 16 and we’ll do that here.

Top Half

Michael van Gerwen himself will open up the show on Sunday. He faces Steve Beaton which should in all theory be a comfortable win for the Green Machine. They are followed by Mensur Suljovic and Gerwyn Price in an interesting little battle.

The two matches of the round follow those matches. Michael Smith takes on Stephen Bunting in a match which has all the makings of an absolute barnstormer before Kim Huybrechts takes on Alan Norris for a quarter final spot.

Bottom Half

Peter Wright is the first man in action in the bottom half when he goes up against Joe Cullen in what should be a good match. James Wade meets the Welshman Jonny Clayton in the next match and the two winners will meet in the quarter final.

The last two matches are intriguing too with Benito van de Pas taking on Joe Murnan with both men having a great chance of going deep in this tournament before the round concludes with James Wilson taking on Raymond Barneveld.

Betting

We had a great first day of match betting in this tournament on Saturday with two very nice priced punts landing the goods for us and we’re going with a couple more on Sunday alongside the Barneveld outright punt which is still going well for us.

The first bet is on the match of the afternoon when Michael Smith played Stephen Bunting. Bunting has won the last three matches in this rivalry and I think he is good value to win this one too. Smith hasn’t been in top form for quite a while now while Bunting is beginning to show signs of coming back towards his best. I would imagine this one will remain fairly close throughout but in the crunch moments I favour Bunting especially at odds against.

The other one is on Jonny Clayton to beat James Wade. I’m a little worried about James Wade again. It might be that I’ve no need to be but he pulled out at the last minute two weeks ago and while he made the semi-final in Muelheim last week he had to survive several deciding leg matches and he didn’t look great on Saturday.

Jonny Clayton certainly looked great. In fact he has done on both days he has played this weekend. He thrashed Jelle Klaasen 6-1 on Saturday with a 102.33 average and that is the sort of number that gets anyone’s attention. If he can repeat that sort of performance he has to be overpriced to win this one.
