German Darts Masters – Last 16 Matches Betting Preview

The final day of the German Darts Masters begins with the last 16 of the tournament being played out in the afternoon session on Monday with the remainder of the event played out in a busy evening session later in the day.

German Darts Masters – Overview

Although we lost a few seeds on Sunday by and large most of the big names came through unscathed so we are all set up for a cracking conclusion to the tournament with the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis among the 16 men looking to land the title.

The day begins with Peter Wright taking on the Spanish qualifier Cristo Reyes. Wright looked good in beating Stephen Bunting on Sunday while Reyes was far too good for Brendan Dolan, as we expected him to be. If Reyes scores like he did in that game he’ll have every chance here but the likelihood is that he won’t be crisp enough on his doubles to see Wright off. Nevertheless I’m not a short price backer of anything in these events.

Adrian Lewis is another short price here. He faces James Richardson who is making a revival at this level. Richardson has already seen off Andrew Gilding and Terry Jenkins in this tournament so he needs to be respected but you would think Lewis is a pretty good thing to come through there.

Possibly the match of the round comes next as our outright pick Jelle Klaasen goes up against the talented Ian White. White leads their head to head 3-2 but few played better than Klaasen in the previous round so I’m hoping he can come through there and push on.

Michael Smith came through a bit of a struggle against Jeffrey de Graaf on Sunday and he faces the former BDO star James Wilson for a place in the quarter final. Smith will be pleased to be playing Wilson and not Mensur Suljovic who Wilson beat as the youngster has had a few problems against the Austrian in the past.

I’m not convinced the Premier League has done much for Michael Smith’s confidence. He made a couple of floor quarter finals earlier in the year but that has been in it and that isn’t the form he would be looking for.

In fairness Wilson has taken a while to adjust to the PDC circuit but you don’t become a bad player overnight. He has plenty of scoring power and can finish well and when he gets on a roll he can be hard to stop as Suljovic can testify from Sunday. I think Wilson could just be a bit of value there.

Joe Cullen made a name for himself with some eye catching performances at the UK Open earlier in the month and he has made it into the last 16 here where he will take on Benito van de Pas. Van de Pas is improving all the time on the circuit so this should be a good match.

In what looks like a 50/50 match Cullen could be considered value but I think this one will be pretty tight so I’m prepared to sit this one out but I certainly wouldn’t put anyone off taking Cullen that’s for sure.

Gary Anderson lit up the second day on Sunday when he averaged a whopping 106.59 in destroying a dangerous Daryl Gurney and he goes into the last 16 against William O’Connor as a very warm favourite. There isn’t a scenario I can picture where Anderson loses this match so this is another one for me to sit out.

Dave Chisnall looks a little bit out of form at the minute and he could be vulnerable against the highly touted Chris Dobey. Dobey has already seen off Robert Thornton this week and averaged over a ton in doing so. With him having little to lose here he is a real danger for Chisnall.

You just sense Chisnall is just lacking a little bit of confidence at the minute which wouldn’t be a surprise because he has been taking a few beatings in the Premier League recently and that does confidence no good. I’ve a feeling Dobey is a little overpriced here and I can’t resist a bet.

The final match of the round sees Michael van Gerwen going up against Kevin Painter. Painter has done his job this week really. He has come through to the last 16 and pocketed some decent cash and now he can give this a good go but I’m expecting nothing but a Dutch win in that game.
