German Masters Snooker 2023 – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

It is what people call ‘Moving Day’ at the German Masters on Friday as the second round concludes and the quarter finals are played out on a huge day of snooker inside the iconic and famous Tempodrom in Berlin.

At the end of the day we will know the four men who will compete in the one table setup over the weekend and there are still some big names looking to occupy those places. The second round concludes in the afternoon and the quarter finals are played in the evening.

Afternoon Session

The four second round matches make up the afternoon session and it will be Neil Robertson who is once again on the TV table. He goes up against the Shootout champion Chris Wakelin in the standout tie of the afternoon. The other appealing match in this first session of the day sees the English Open finalist Luca Brecel going up against the man who will be defending his Gibraltar Open trophy next month in Robert Milkins. The other two matches in the afternoon sees Ricky Walden going up against Pang Junxu while Ali Carter will meet Louis Heathcote for a quarter final spot.

Evening Session

The evening is where all four quarter finals will be played but we only have two of them confirmed at the time of writing given that the other half of the last eight draw will be determined from the afternoon matches. The top half quarter finals have been confirmed and the pick of those will see Tom Ford taking on Kyren Wilson. The other match sees Jack Lisowski going up against Xiao Guodong and then also in the evening session we will see the winner of Neil Robertson and Chris Wakelin meeting the winner of Luca Brecel and Robert Milkins and the other match will see either Ricky Walden or Pang Junxu going up against Ali Carter or Louis Heathcote.

Betting

I’ll go with the one bet over the course of the day and it comes in the over 7.5 frames in the quarter final between Tom Ford and Kyren Wilson. I’ve already pinned my colours to the Ford mast this week and was encouraged by the level he showed in his win over Tian Pengfei on Thursday evening when you consider his opponent had already had a match in the Berlin conditions which he didn’t have the luxury of getting.

Clearly Ford goes up in grade here but generally matches between he and Wilson are on the tight side. If you take away their Championship League matches, two of their seven meetings have gone to a deciding frame and another three have been decided by two frames. They have met eight times in the Championship League as well and six of those have gone to a decider so rarely does much separate these two men. Wilson is playing well this week and Ford is showing good form at the minute too so while I hope Ford wins this one I expect to see an eighth frame before this is done.
