Gold Cup Group B concludes in front of our very eyes on Monday night when we reach the halfway stage in the final round of matches in the first part of the competition. We have seen some wonderful football in recent nights and hopefully we’ll see more of the same here.
We already know the two teams who will escape from this group into the knockout stages but they meet to avoid facing Mexico in the quarter finals while the other two teams in the section will collide to depart the tournament with their first win.
Bermuda vs Nicaragua (23.30)
The first match of the two on the night is the one that has no bearing on the tournament any longer as Bermuda take on Nicaragua with pride the only thing on the line for these two sides as they will depart the tournament after the match.
Nicaragua really want to put in a performance in this match. They have been poor at best in the competition and while missing their leading light in front of goal excuses them slightly in terms of having not found the net thus far, they will still be frustrated by the output they have delivered, or rather the lack of one.
Bermuda in contrast have looked good for large parts of the event. They led Haiti for a while before succumbing late on and then they put up a spirited fight against Costa Rica in their second outing. In Nakhi Wells they have the best player on the pitch and that can count for something. Usually in a match of this kind between two minnows I’d look for a bit of draw cover but given that a draw means nothing to either of them I’m happy to play Bermuda on the straight win.

Haiti vs Costa Rica (02.00)
The big match of the night is very much the second one as we find out who wins Group B and therefore dodges Mexico in the quarter final and who comes second and ends up on a collision course with ‘El Tri’ when Haiti take on Costa Rica in New York.
The reward for winning this match is pretty substantial but the good thing as far as they are both concerned is that whatever happens here they know they are through to the knockout stages. Nevertheless, avoiding Mexico is a big thing if they harbour hopes of going deep in the tournament so I’m expecting something of a competitive battle in this one at the very least.
Costa Rica are the favourites for this match but I can’t say I’ve been massively impressed by them so rather than taking them on a short price or anything like that I think the best thing to do is to put faith in both attacking units to deliver the goods. Both are equipped with enough quality to find the back of the net so both teams to score looks the bet to me.
