Grand Slam of Darts 2022 – Day 2 Evening Session Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of the Grand Slam of Darts sees the middle matches in the group phase being played out inside the Alderley Leisure Centre in Wolverhampton on Sunday, with the evening session seeing the players who were in action on Saturday night returning to the stage.

That means we get to see the likes of the world champion Peter Wright, former winner Michael van Gerwen and a whole raft of rising stars back on the oche on what could be a pivotal night in groups E-H.

First Four Matches

The first half of the evening sees the losers from Saturday evening facing each other with each player really needing to get off the mark for the tournament else they could face elimination from the competition. We begin in Group H where the young star Josh Rock takes on the Challenge Tour supremo Scott Williams. When they are done Damon Heta will look to get back on track in Group F when he meets Leonard Gates before Ross Smith and Nathan Rafferty will look to repair their Group G hopes. Nathan Aspinall and Fallon Sherrock are the last losing players from Saturday to take to the stage when they meet in Group E.

Later Four Matches

The later part of the evening will see the winning players from the first night of these groups heading back to the oche with the prize on offer for each of them having one foot into the knockout stages with a win if not actually securing a last 16 berth. Jonny Clayton will be the first player looking to pick up a second win. He meets Jermaine Wattimena in Group F before Michael van Gerwen takes on Luke Woodhouse in Group G. The world champion Peter Wright is up on stage in the penultimate match. He meets fellow Scottish player Alan Soutar in Group E before we conclude the evening in Group H as Luke Humphries takes on Ryan Searle.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet on what isn’t the easiest card in the world to bet on over the course of Sunday evening. That bet comes fairly late in the session when Michael van Gerwen will be looking to continue his good record in the group phase of this tournament when he takes on a Luke Woodhouse, who was in inspired form in his opening win against Ross Smith on Saturday and who you would imagine has little to lose in this match with the worst he’ll end up with being a clash with Nathan Rafferty where he will probably qualify if he wins.

That means I expect Woodhouse to let his arm go and just give this a good go. He hit six 180s in his win over Smith on Saturday night and I see no reason why he can’t trouble that column of the scoreboard in this match without too much pressure on him. Van Gerwen has the chance to send a bit of a marker out here having got the fall back of another match to make it through should he come unstuck here so I think the 3.5 180 line is a little on the low side.
