After the boys had their chance to open up the classic weekend on Saturday it is the turn of the females to grace Newmarket on Sunday when the 1000 Guineas is raced over the course of a decent afternoon of racing.
As with Saturday, in light of the changing conditions and the indifferent weather we are largely keeping our powder dry when it comes to the undercard but there is one which we like in the big race itself.

Preview
A bigger field for the fillies running of the Guineas on the first classic weekend of the season. The 1000 Guineas sees 16 go to post and there’s an open feel to it with the favourite trading at around 7/2. Fallen Angel is bidding to give Karl Burke his first classic winner & a Group 1 win in the shape of the Moyglare on her CV, the favourite does have a good chance of doing just that. The French challenger Ramatuelle also looks pretty solid but I suspect she might be a better horse on softer ground that she’ll likely get today. Charlie Appleby & William Buick bid for a Guineas double & Dance Sequence is perfectly capable of doing what Notable Speech did yesterday but she, like Andrew Balding’s See The Fire, don’t appear to be value in such an open race.

It’s a bit of a punt but I’m hoping that the once raced Star Style doesn’t lack for experience. On raw ability, it’s hard to leave her out of calculations after seeing just how impressive she was on debut at Newbury just over 2 weeks ago. In a newcomers race, she broke well from the gate & never really saw another rival coming clear in impressive fashion for a 5 length success. Connections clearly think a lot of her given she was entered up in both this & the Irish equivalent. She has plenty of speed, should stay the mile especially if the ground dries a little more & has what I consider to be a nice middle draw in 10. Whilst she doesn’t have the best RPR or Topspeed figure in the field, it’s very different if you compare her debut run with the rest of the rivals’ debuts too. Looking at that only, she’d be a much, more shorter price here so it’s really just a case of whether experience plays a part. The yard knows how to ready one & will fancy compensation after saddling the 2nd & 3rd horses home in the 2000 Guineas yesterday. In an open event, she’s value at around 16/1.
