India vs Australia – 2nd ODI Tips and Betting Preview

The ODI series between India and Australia continues on Sunday when the two sides head to Indore for the second match of the three which is acting as the last chance for the teams to prepare for the World Cup.

India came away from the opening match with a win and they can secure the series with a victory here. Australia will probably want as much competitive practice in these conditions so a win to force a decider would suit them.

India

Even with some key players being rested, it was probably to be expected that India would be the better team in the opening match of the series. They might find a tougher challenge in front of them in this match though so India will be looking to improve as they go along. The big thing in this match is that they either get the players who will be involved in the World Cup in form, or keep them there if they are already going well.

India actually made a tricky run chase look very easy in that opening game and when you consider that it was in the batting department where they had the majority of their players resting that is certainly to their credit. They are likely to rotate their bowlers in this match to keep everyone fresh ahead of the World Cup which is only 11 days away from the start of this encounter so you would imagine they will need that batting to be at its best again here.

Australia

I guess when you consider that Australia were finishing an ODI series in South Africa just five days prior to playing the opener of this one, they were always going to build their way into the series. They were not able to get a warm up match in which meant that they were going in a little blind when it came to the conditions and I think that showed with the bat. There was a little bit of a tepidness about their batting at times which we didn’t really see in more favourable conditions in South Africa.

Where Australia will be pleased is the way they finished off their batting innings and in the main they will be happy with how they bowled. If they could have had another 25-30 runs to play with then the outcome could have been much different but with some key bowlers still to come into the side they will certainly be happy with how that unit tracked. What they will be looking to do in the remainder of this series is finalising a batting unit that works in light of the injury to Travis Head.

Team News

India look set to rest Jasprit Bumrah for this match after he played on Friday. Having missed so much cricket this year India aren’t going to overwork him which is understandable. Mohammad Siraj is the most likely replacement for him.

Australia are expected to manage the workload of Marcus Stoinis which means resting him for this one with Aaron Hardie potentially coming in as his replacement. Josh Hazlewood is ready for a starting spot too.

Betting

We have seen in the Indian Premier League and the international matches that have been played in Indore that it is a very small ground where the ball tends to clear the ropes on multiple occasions and with both teams resting a key bowler for this match I see no reason why the sixes are not going to add up quite quickly in this second game of the series. That should be even more the case now that the Australian batting has had an outing.

The sixes line for this match is 15.5 which looks incredibly low when you consider that the last match on this ground had 32 of the things. This is very much a high scoring ground as evidenced by the fact that in the six ODIs here we have only had one first innings below 288. In that time we have had a 418/5 and a 389/9 which highlights how accessible the boundaries are here. These two carry plenty of six hitting threat so I’m more than happy to be on the over on that line.
