India vs England – 3rd T20 Tips and Betting Preview

The India against England T20 series continues on Tuesday when the two nations widely expected to contend for the World T20 title later in the year meet in the third game of the five in Ahmedabad as this intriguing series continues.

India levelled up the series in emphatic style on Sunday and they will go into the third game full of confidence while England will be looking to bounce back. Whoever wins this match will be one up with two to play so this is a pivotal game.

India

India were as good in the second match as they were terrible in the first game. They will be hoping that they have set the precedent for their performance levels in that second match and if they emulate them again here they are going to be very tough to beat. For India to be level in the series without the pitches getting difficult yet is more than a feather in their cap and they will be expecting to go on and win the series from here on in.

India worked out that while experience and big name players with IPL experience gets them so far, the incredible youngsters will get them to the next level and Ishan Kishan could not have rubberstamped that theory any better. There are plenty of them doing the rounds in the IPL already and with another tournament beginning next month India could be insanely strong come the World T20. That means those experienced players who are in this squad need to perform.

England

England were brilliant in the first game and while keeping to those standards was always going to be tough, they will be disappointed at quite how far they fell away from their level in the second match. They wasted a great position with the bat and then when it came to the bowling they were never in the hunt. To their credit they plugged away and looked for the opening but failing to take their chances meant they never had a hope of winning.

England will feel as though that was a lost opportunity. I say that because they haven’t played on a tricky pitch yet and if there is one thing we know about this England side it is that they are nothing like as confident with the bat when the ball is doing something. That is likely to be the case here so they may well need their bowlers to deliver the sort of performance they gave in that opening game if they are going to be competitive here.

Team News

We don’t know if that is the last we’ll see of Shikhar Dhawan but Ishan Kishan clearly isn’t going anywhere. Virat Kohli hinted before the first game that Rohit Sharma would be back for this match. He could replace KL Rahul if that is the case.

England are likely to call Moeen Ali into their side. Tom Curran is the obvious one to miss out having not been good enough in the previous game. It is unknown whether Mark Wood will be fit to come into the side for this one. Chris Jordan could be vulnerable if he is.

Betting

We haven’t seen a high scoring match in the series and now that we are moving onto the red soil I’m not convinced we’re going to see one here. If you think of it in IPL terms we’ve gone from a Kolkata pitch to a Chennai one now and matches in Chennai are always low scoring with spin very much dominating. Those are not conditions in which England are able to play their best cricket so clearly they are going to be up against it.

I don’t really want to back India to win the match though because we’ve seen throughout the series that this is likely to be a chase-a-thon with the dew that is around. I probably didn’t respect that enough in the previous game and I’m not going to make that mistake again. Instead the bet I like here is for there to be less than 328.5 runs. This line was only just covered in the second game on Sunday on a much better pitch than certainly what Eoin Morgan expects here. I’m happy to be on the under particularly with the series now behind closed doors so the adrenaline a crowd gives players being absent again.
