Indian Premier League 2017 – Delhi Daredevils vs Kings XI Punjab Betting Preview

The second match of the Saturday Indian Premier League double header sees the tournament head to Delhi for the first time as the Delhi Daredevils host the Kings XI Punjab inside the Feroz Shah Kotla.

Both sides have made encouraging starts to the season and will be looking to build on them in this match. A win would be a significant result for each side while defeat won’t be the end of the world but would start to apply pressure to future matches.

Delhi Daredevils

After a collapse denied them against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening match the Delhi Daredevils showed all of their ability in their second match of the season when they demolished the Rising Pune Supergiant and if they can repeat that effort here they will have every chance of winning.

Their bowling attack has taken the plaudits in the tournament so far and it isn’t hard to see why that is the case but I liked the way they batted against the Supergiant. Delhi are one of few sides who have actually defended a total in the tournament thus far which bodes well for them and if their young batsmen can continue to flourish they’ll enjoy a good campaign.

Kings XI Punjab

It was all going swimmingly for the Kings XI after two huge wins in their opening two matches of the campaign but then they ran into the Kolkata Knight Riders and they came unstuck in a big way. They made the mess of a good start with the bat and made a right Horlicks of their bowling effort to lose comfortably.

Glenn Maxwell didn’t have his best game in the field in that match and it did raise the concern of whether the Kings XI can win a match if they have to bat first. That is something they have to prove and they also need to prove that a disappointing bowling performance in Kolkata was just a one off and isn’t becoming the norm.

Team News

Shreyas Iyer has recovered from chicken pox so he is expected to come into the side with Tare the man most likely to make way for him. That may well be the only change for the hosts.

Kings XI might look to shake up their bowling attack after a disappointing outing last time out. Darren Sammy would be one option to come in should they wish.

Betting

I’m going with a couple of bets here. The first is on a Delhi Daredevils side who I believe is still being underrated. They look the real deal with the ball to me which always bodes well but they are not too far behind many others with the bat either as we saw last time out. I’m expecting them to build on that win and take care of a Kings XI side who might find it harder to score runs in this match and who still look likely to go for plenty.

The other bet I like is for Chris Morris to cover 34.5pts in his performance. He has covered it with the ball in the first match and with the bat in the second match and he is always in the game as he fields in the key positions too. He has scored more than 70pts in each of the first two games so where this line comes from I’ve no idea but I’m happy to take the overs.
