We have another Indian Premier League double header on Sunday with the four sides who didn’t feature in the tournament on Saturday all in action. The opening match of the two sees the Gujarat Lions taking on the Kings XI Punjab in a battle of the strugglers.
The two sides head into the match in the large group of sides on four points and one of them will escape the pack and put themselves in a position to launch a playoff charge.
Gujarat Lions
It has been a largely poor season for the Gujarat Lions but a win over the Kolkata Knight Riders last time out have given them something to build on and more important some confidence to use. Although I still wasn’t impressed with the balance of their side in that match against Kolkata you can’t argue with their batting power.
Despite the team changes Gujarat’s weakness with the ball was still exposed and if they are going to be a force this season then they are going to have to address that but while they are batting the way they are then they will give themselves every chance of winning any match which they bat second in.
Kings XI Punjab
It looked like the Kings XI Punjab were going to surprise many when they began the season with back to back wins but in reality they didn’t beat anything and since then they have reverted back to type with four defeats on the trot. If ever a side are desperate for a win then it is them and they could do with it coming here.
Much like the Gujarat Lions, the Kings XI Punjab have a solid batting line up which is actually firing quite strongly at the minute but they don’t look like defending any total with the ball as we saw recently in their match with the Mumbai Indians. Until that changes you fear for them but with them so heavily reliant on overseas batsmen it may never change.
Team News
It remains to be seen if Dwayne Bravo will be back for this match but you would think there will be a huge fanfare surrounding him when he is coming back and given that has been absent he might not be ready yet so Gujarat could be unchanged.
You would think after the absolute shellacking that the Kings XI bowling took in the last match that they have to change their bowling attack around. Matt Henry would be a good option but that would mean dropping an overseas batsman. Manan Vohra could return.

Betting
I expect a high scoring match here. All three matches on this ground so far have been high scoring with two of them being won by the chasing side and the other one failing when the first innings was over 200. In three matches here this season the lowest score has been 171/8 which was chased down in 18 overs so this should be a run fest.
When you factor in these two bowling attacks are little short of useless then the runs are highly likely to flow in this one so I would rather go for the total runs and the sixes lines rather than the match betting where the chasing side are going to have a huge advantage. Both batting line ups are delivering with power and brute force while neither bowling attack looks like restricting sides so 14 or more sixes and more than 334.5 runs both look great lines.
