Metro Bank One Day Cup 2024 – Sunday 4th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

We move into the second half of the group stage of the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Sunday with another full set of fixtures as we begin to get a clearer picture of which six sides will progress into the latter stages of the competition.

As has been the case throughout the tournament so far, The Hundred is getting all the TV attention which means that if you have a bet on any of these matches and want to follow it you will need the live stream that the home county provides.

Group A

Worcestershire moved to the top of the Group A table on Friday and still have a perfect record in the competition, one which they will look to maintain on Sunday when they head to Wantage Road to take on a currently winless Northamptonshire side. Somerset and Derbyshire are level on points with Worcestershire but have both lost a game. They meet at Taunton on Sunday while Hampshire will look to bounce back from their defeat to Kent last time out when they host a winless Lancashire side at the Utilita Bowl. The other match in this group comes from Beckenham where Kent and Middlesex battle it out for two key points.

Group B

Glamorgan and Warwickshire are at the top of Group B and with four wins from four they have put distance between them and the rest of the teams. Both go on their travels on Sunday looking to protect their perfect records. Glamorgan go to Chelmsford to take on an Essex side who only have one win from three matches so need to get back to winning ways quickly while Warwickshire have the trickier looking trip to Bristol to face a Gloucestershire side who have suddenly won their last two after a quiet start. Nottinghamshire sit in third place heading into the Sunday action and they travel to Guildford to take on a Surrey side who are without a win so far. Sussex are the other team yet to win a match in this competition and they welcome the defending champions Leicestershire to Hove.

Betting

Glamorgan won this competition a couple of years ago and they are in good shape to launch another tilt at the title and I think they can continue their push for that with another win when they go to Essex on Sunday. There are a few things that I like about Glamorgan. The first is that they have an overseas player which shows they are intent in doing well in the competition while the second thing I like is they have a bowling attack in really good nick and one not too dissimilar to the one they used in the Vitality Blast with the exception of Mason Crane who is away at The Hundred. I also like that they rescued a match that looked dead and buried last time out as that always gives a side confidence.

Essex have gone well enough with the bat in this competition but their bowling has left plenty to be desired and they will be without Matt Critchley for this match too because he has returned to The Hundred. This is a very young and inexperienced Essex bowling unit bar the odd exception and Glamorgan certainly know how to get stuck into inexperienced attacks and if their batting catches fire they could be away and gone here. Essex are batting well but this Glamorgan attack is going so well and they have so many options to be able to line up well to the conditions. It is hard not to like the Welsh outfit here.
