The Friday night offering in the MLS this week has us waiting right through the night as it is a 3am kick off for the match between the Colorado Rapids and the Vancouver Whitecaps in a battle of the Western Conference strugglers.
Colorado head into the contest bottom of the table in the West which is a bit of a surprise while the Whitecaps have started better but still aren’t where they would want to be so both will be out to win this one.
Colorado Rapids
The Rapids began the season with a win but they have lost five of their six matches since then and are in a real slump at the minute. They have scored more than one goal in just one of those seven games so it is pretty clear where their issues lie and there are no immediate signs that they have found the answer.
They might need a change of approach from here on in. In the past they have been a solid side who have been well drilled and well organised but this is becoming a league where you need to score goals more and more now and so their defensive, rigid style may no longer be the answer especially in a competitive Conference.
Vancouver Whitecaps
Consistency is an issue with the Whitecaps this season but they have pulled out some standout wins which is something they can take into this match with them. They already have wins over Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders this season so they seem to raise their game against the better sides.
They will need to ensure their game is in good order against the weaker sides. They have already failed to beat Real Salt Lake City and the Philadelphia Union this season and they are two of the poorer sides in MLS at the minute so that is an issue they need to address. If they can do that they might sneak into the playoffs.
Team News
The Colorado Rapids will be delighted to have Tim Howard back in their side after the keeper has returned from suspension. Bismark Adjei-Boateng is going to be out for another couple of months.
Vancouver have all sorts of injury problems heading into this match. They are without eight players in total including David Edgar while Brek Shea is rated only questionable with a knee sprain.

Betting
There’s nothing in this match which interests me in truth. I can’t be backing Colorado Rapids at around the even money mark but there is little about Vancouver that I like either in all honesty I have to say.
Even the goal lines look about right here and while I see this as a low scoring match there isn’t a lot of margin in either the lines or the prices so I’ll take a watching brief on the Friday night game this week.
