The MLS weekend begins as ever on Friday night and it does so with three matches up and down the country as the season begins to really take shape now. Matches are in the early hours of Saturday morning in the UK and will need to be viewed at the bookmaker sites.
Philadelphia Union vs New York City
Two sides who lost last week get the evening underway when the Philadelphia Union host New York City in an all-Eastern Conference clash. The Union went down to the Portland Timbers last week and in truth looked bang average while Patrick Vieira’s New York City lost in Washington which was a surprise.
The Union have a couple of injuries to contend with here which could be the difference in this one. Although I was surprised New York City lost last week I think they can get back to getting results here. They are generally tough to beat on their travels with the way they set up and although they have lost both their away games so far this season they were to two better sides than Philadelphia. I don’t think NYCFC will lose this one so they appeal on the Asian lines.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs Seattle Sounders
The opening match of this season’s Cascadia Cup sees the Vancouver Whitecaps taking on the Seattle Sounders. It is fair to say these two don’t like each other much and there is a local rivalry there which will add something to the match.
I don’t fancy betting on this match. I’m no fan of the Vancouver Whitecaps while Seattle Sounders have proven to be hard to beat this season but there looks to be a great deal of draw potential around this one which means the prices on the significant markets are about right so nothing interests me here.
San Jose Earthquakes vs FC Dallas
The match of the night comes in San Jose where the Earthquakes take on FC Dallas in an eye catching Western Conference clash. The Earthquakes go into the match without a win in their last three while FC Dallas are unbeaten this season but I’m not convinced this will be an automatic away win.
We know away wins are rare in this league and to be fair to San Jose they have seven points from their three home matches so they are tough to beat on their own patch. I’m not one to be taking FC Dallas on though while they are playing this well so I’ll sit and watch this one too.
