The MLS is back with a midweek round of fixtures which contains four matches on Wednesday night as both Conferences head towards the upcoming break for the Gold Cup. The leaders of both Conferences are not in action in this match day so there is the chance for the chasing pack to close in on them.

DC United vs Atlanta United (00.30 BST)
The first match of the night is the only all-Eastern Conference clash of the evening as DC United take on Atlanta United for the second time this season. DC United won in Atlanta earlier in the season in a match Atlanta actually dominated.
Since then DC United have only won one of their last seven matches and have only scored one goal in that time so it would be impossible to say they are in decent form. They’re not. Atlanta United have largely struggled on the road recently but in fairness Chicago, New York City and Portland are tough places to go.
I would expect both sides to want to make changes to their side and that is where the Atlanta depth chart comes in. Josef Martinez could start this one which would be massive. I don’t think Atlanta will need much to win this but I’m confident they will have what they need.
Minnesota United vs Portland Timbers (01.00 BST)
This is one of two all-Western Conference clashes and it carries plenty of significance. The reverse meeting between these two came in the first match of the season when the Timbers won 5-2 and both sides have carried on in similar vein from there.
Portland are third in the table and will move into second with a win here while Minnesota need a win to get back among the pack chasing for the play-offs having been cut adrift. This isn’t a match where anything stands out to me though so I’ll leave this one.
Colorado Rapids vs Los Angeles Galaxy (02.00 BST)
Two sides pushing for a spot in the top six of the Western Conference meet in the third match of the night when the Colorado Rapids take on the Los Angeles Galaxy with both needing a win to help their quest.
Colorado took an absolute age to get going this season but they have now won their last three matches and look to be playing Rapids football again winning three tight matches. Los Angeles are in good touch themselves but they have a rising injury list.
Injury had already robbed LA of Robbie Rogers and Seb Lletget and Baggio Husidic, Brian Rowe and Jermaine Jones are out of this match too. Gio dos Santos is away with Mexico so the Galaxy are depleted. Colorado are short enough but there might just be enough value given all the Galaxy absentees.
Seattle Sounders vs Orlando City (03.30 BST)
The defending MLS champions Seattle Sounders will look to get back into the top six when they host Orlando City. Both sides will argue they are not where they want to be at the minute so this is a key game for both.
If I was betting on the match I would probably go with the Sounders who tend to play well at home but they are so inconsistent I can’t really bring myself to part with my money on them. I like two other bets on the evening and that will do for me.
