The second weekend in Major League Soccer begins with a set of fixtures on Saturday night that will get fans of MLS excited with a number of juicy matches and some top sides in action as the season begins to kick into life.
We have one match in front of the cameras in the UK out of the seven that are taking place while another will be streamed live on twitter and there are plenty of ways to keep up to date with what else is going on.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off time in brackets)
Columbus Crew vs Montreal Impact (18.00)
New England Revolution vs Colorado Rapids (18.30)
Real Salt Lake vs Los Angeles FC (20.30)
Chicago Fire vs Sporting Kansas City (23.00)
Houston Dynamo vs Vancouver Whitecaps (23.00)
New York Red Bulls vs Portland Timbers (00.00)
Orlando City vs Minnesota (00.30)
Big Matches
The big match in terms of those of us in the UK is the one between the Chicago Fire and Sporting Kansas City. That is the match that is live on the TV. After their excellent win over the champions Toronto FC, all eyes will be on Columbus Crew to see if they can build on that when they host Montreal Impact in the early game. New York Red Bulls against Portland Timbers is another high profile game.
Best of the Rest
New England Revolution will look to rebound from their beating last week when they play host to the Colorado Rapids while Los Angeles FC will look to build on their fine opening day success when they travel to Real Salt Lake. Houston Dynamo were the biggest winners on the first round of matches and they take on Vancouver Whitecaps in a big Western Conference clash with Orlando City hosting Minnesota United in the other match.

Betting
I’m going to go with a couple of overs in the respective goal lines for these matches. The first comes at Houston where the Houston Dynamo will once again look to get on the front foot when they take on the Vancouver Whitecaps. Houston looked fantastic going forward last week but there were still concerns about them defensively and with Kei Kamara in their ranks, the Whitecaps have the firepower to take advantage of that. Vancouver didn’t look completely sound themselves last week so I fancy over 2.5 here.
I’m expecting the New York Red Bulls to play an offensive style of football this season even without Felipe and Kljestan and that should certainly come into play against a Portland Timbers side who like to play open and expansive football themselves. Portland looked a little loose at the back for my liking last weekend and the Red Bulls can exploit that but the one thing we know about the Timbers is they have goals in them. I’m on the over here too.
