The penultimate round of the MLS regular season sees all the matches taking place on what is therefore a busy Sunday in the division and with postseason spots up for grabs and plenty of teams jostling for positions we are set for an entertaining evening of football.
There are five matches in the Eastern Conference which gets the night underway before the six games in the Western Conference where the attention is on a number of big sides and their play-off ambitions.

Big Matches
There are two games on TV for those of us in the UK with the match between DC United and New York City FC the Eastern Conference clash on the box while the battle between the top two in the Western Conference is also live as FC Dallas take on Sporting Kansas City in a match which could well decide who will top that table and have home field advantage up until the MLS Cup final so there is plenty on the line there. Elsewhere the Montreal Impact have to beat Toronto FC and hope results go their way if they are to keep their postseason hopes alive while the LA Galaxy are in the same boat. Even if they beat Minnesota United they will see their play-off aspirations end if Real Salt Lake beat the Portland Timbers
Best of the Rest
Atlanta United will look to stay in front in the race for the Supporters’ Shield when they play host to the Chicago Fire. They will actually be crowned winners of that if they win and the New York Red Bulls are beaten by the Philadelphia Union. Los Angeles FC will move into the top two if they beat the Vancouver Whitecaps while Seattle Sounders will be looking to keep their top two hopes alive by winning at the Houston Dynamo.

Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets across the course of the night. In the Eastern Conference matches I’ll take DC United to book their spot at the postseason with a win. It is quite simple for the Washington outfit. Win and they are in and they get their first shot at it against a New York City FC side who have fallen off the rails in recent times. DC are playing great football right now. The combination play between Luciano Acosta and Wayne Rooney is something to behold and great to watch with the likes of Yamil Asad and Zoltan Stieber offering good back up to them. NYCFC are really struggling at the minute with Maxi Moralez’s injury having more of an effect on them than they would want. NYC have plenty to play for but you sense the surging confidence of DC United will be too much for them.
Later in the night the clash between the Minnesota United and Los Angeles Galaxy is nicely set up for goals. Minnesota will be looking to finish their season with a good couple of performances while Galaxy have to win to have any chance of making it to the postseason. That means the first goal will be important here and were Minnesota to get it this one naturally has to open up into something special. Even if the Galaxy get it, it isn’t in Minnesota’s style to lie down and accept defeat so I’m expecting over 3.5 goals to land in this one.
