Rivalry week in the MLS concludes with the final two matches of the latest fixture list on Sunday evening with a couple of pretty key clashes in both Conferences as the play-off picture begins to take shape.
Of the two matches the first one is live on TV for those of us who are in the UK while the many streams that cover this division will be required for us to check out the Western Conference clash later in the night.
New York Red Bulls vs DC United
The first game of the evening comes from the Eastern Conference where the New York Red Bulls will look to go four points clear of their rivals from across the Hudson River when they take on Wayne Rooney and his DC United outfit.
Matches are beginning to gather importance for DC United with them now just six points behind Montreal in the fight for the final play-off spot but with five games in hand and a batch of home matches to come they can afford to sack this off should they want to. The Red Bulls are playing their second match of Rivalry Week after a physical battle against New York City on Wednesday evening.
I probably would have had a go with the Red Bulls had that match with NYCFC not been so physical and energy zapping. Given that it is I then look at whether to take DC United but they have played so much football recently that something will have to give at some point. I’ll sit this one out.

Portland Timbers vs Seattle Sounders
The final match of the weekend is the latest clash from the Cascadia Cup as bitter rivals Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders collide in what could be a Western Conference match up with massive implications.
Portland currently occupy the final play-off place in the West but with three defeats in a row going into this match they are going in the wrong direction. Seattle have won their last six matches after a slow start to the season and are now within just two points of their rivals and will move into the top six with a victory here.
This isn’t an easy match to bet on. On form you would take the Sounders but it is generally a costly theory to take on Portland on their own patch. Throw in the bitterness between these two and maybe the draw will be the outcome. Either way there is no value anywhere that pulls me in.
