MLS 2019 – New England Revolution vs FC Cincinnati Betting Preview

The cut down schedule in the MLS this week concludes on Sunday evening with the final match of the round when the New England Revolution take on FC Cincinnati in an Eastern Conference battle with three valuable points at stake.

Both these teams have had indifferent beginnings to their season but there is the chance of each of them to ease the pressure on themselves for the foreseeable future by picking up a win here. We are reduced to the streams for this match.

New England Revolution

Things were a little quiet in terms of optimism heading into the season for the New England Revolution and I guess in their opening three matches we have seen why. They drew their opening match but have suffered disappointing defeats since then and they really need a victory here both for morale as much as their position in the Eastern Conference league table.

Personally, I’m not sure what the Revolution are. Of course they want to be in the postseason, that is the American way, but they don’t look to have a devastating presence offensively and to be honest they don’t really convince me defensively either so I’m unsure how they are going to consistently win enough matches to be really competitive.

FC Cincinnati

There was once a time when being a new franchise in this league you would be cannon fodder, but I think Atlanta United and then Los Angeles FC changed all that, and now there is expectation on the new teams to deliver, which puts FC Cincinnati under pressure early in their MLS life. To be fair to them they have been more than competitive so far but need to ensure that remains the case.

There has been an attacking intent in FC Cincinnati in their opening three matches and that is what I like in this league. If you don’t have goals in your team you are going to struggle. When you think they have faced the last three champions if their first three games, to come out with four points has been a more than respectable effort.

Team News

The New England Revolution will be without a number of men here. Isaac Angking is out with a knee injury while Zachary Herivaux, Gabriel Somi and Justin Rennicks are all away on international duty for Brad Friedel’s men.

Jimmy McLaughlin has had surgery on his knee so he is out for the foreseeable future while Fanendo Adi is a major doubt here with an ankle injury. Alvas Powell, Kendall Waston, Allan Cruz, Darren Mattocks and Frankie Amaya are all with their national teams.

Betting

If this was a normal Saturday night I think I would have had a go on FC Cincinnati here but the internationals that both sides are missing and the early stage of the campaign is putting me off a bet I have to say. I certainly can’t be backing the newbies given the level of players they could be without at Gillette Stadium.

As I’ve mentioned above, I’m not sure what New England Revolution are these days so this will be a big watching brief for me but until I’m comfortable with the home team I can’t be backing them. With that in mind I’ll wait until next weekend for my next bet in this league.
