This wonderful run of matches in Major League Soccer continues on Saturday evening as another bunch of games takes place in the competition, with plenty on the line in many of them which should make for an exciting night.
There are seven matches on the schedule on Saturday evening going into the early hours of Sunday morning, with two of the games live on TV for those of us in the UK and the various streams showing the others as ever.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
Columbus Crew SC v Montreal Impact (00.30)
Philadelphia Union v Chicago Fire (00.30)
Toronto FC v Houston Dynamo (00.30)
Sporting Kansas City v FC Dallas (01.30)
Colorado Rapids v New York City FC (02.00)
Real Salt Lake v Minnesota United FC (03.00)
Vancouver Whitecaps FC v San Jose Earthquakes (03.00)
Big Matches
The two live games are both Conference clashes and should have plenty of excitement about them. The first sees the leader of the Eastern Conference, Philadelphia Union, looking to extend their lead at the top of the division when they play host to the Chicago Fire and once that is done two teams battling hard to make it through to the play-offs in the Western Conference collide as Real Salt Lake host Minnesota United in an important battle.
Best of the Rest
Montreal Impact will be looking to arrest a slump and get their place among the top four of the Eastern Conference back when they head to Columbus Crew for whom the wheels haven’t just come off but exploded and in need of major surgery. New York City occupy the last postseason spot in the play-offs and they need to beat the Colorado Rapids to stay there while over in the West, Sporting Kansas City will be looking to continue their good recent form when they host FC Dallas while Houston Dynamo urgently need a win on the road to Toronto FC.
Betting
I’ll go with three bets over the course of the night. The first one comes in the first of the live TV matches where fixtures between the Philadelphia Union and Chicago Fire tend to be high scoring and I see no reason why their clash on Saturday evening won’t be. We are having to believe that Philadelphia are the best team in the East at the moment but they still leak goals, as we saw last time out. Chicago play with an openness about them whenever they take to the pitch and if they convert the chances they will undoubtedly create, I expect this one to contain many more goals than the 3.25 expected from the layers.
It has taken an awful long time for the penny to drop with Toronto FC but it finally appears to have done so and I think they are good things against the Houston Dynamo. The Dynamo go into this match off the back of 85 minutes against 10 men in midweek against a side you probably least want to play with 10 men and have to be a bit leggy after that. To make matters worse for them, they will be without Alberth Elis who is suspended after his silly red in midweek. Toronto FC are going along pretty nicely at the minute having won their last two matches and they should have way too much for a poor Dynamo outfit.
Finally it is hard to ignore the current home form of the Real Salt Lake side. They have won their last five matches, including a walloping of the Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union in their latest outing there, and they should be full of confidence here. Minnesota United are very much win or lose on the road, with the latter coming along a lot more than the former. Although they won in Montreal in their last away game they have lost in Chicago and Colorado prior to that and I expect them to lose in Real Salt Lake too.
