What has been quite some weekend in the MLS already concludes on Sunday evening when the last four matches of it takes place. We’ve seen some decent football already in this set of fixtures and we should be in for more of the same given who is on show on Sunday.
All four matches are live on TV for us in the UK so there is no need to miss the bulk of the action although the last game is one for the insomniacs it has to be said. Among the schedule we have Wayne Rooney vs Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a decent supporting cast.
Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
Atlanta United FC v New York City FC (20.55)
Philadelphia Union v Houston Dynamo (23.00)
DC United vs LA Galaxy (00.30)
Los Angeles FC vs New York Red Bulls (03.00)
Preview
There are four great matches for us to enjoy on Sunday night. The first of them sees Atlanta United continuing their title defence when they play host to New York City FC in a match which sees second and third in the Eastern Conference battling it out. A win for the home side will take Atlanta back to the top of the table for a couple of hours although Philadelphia Union will have an immediate chance to reclaim that position when they host Houston Dynamo in the second match. FC Dallas’ win on Saturday has piled the pressure on Houston there.
Later in the night and it is all about the two Los Angeles sides. First of all Galaxy will look to move up to second place when they head to DC United, who desperately need a win to arrest a slide that will have them clinging on to a top seven spot if they allow it to go on for any period of time. The last match of the night sees the Supporters’ Shield winners in waiting, Los Angeles FC, taking on a former winner of that trophy in the New York Red Bulls in what should also be entertaining.
Betting
I’ll take a couple of bets over the course of the night with the first of them being on Atlanta United and New York City FC to produce a few goals. It took Atlanta an absolute age to get up and firing this season but they are certainly in a rich vein of form right now. They have scored 13 goals in their last four matches while there have been at least four goals in each of the last three New York FC games. These two have met at Mercedes-Benz three times in their career and each time there have been four goals. Both attacks look in good shape but both defences look vulnerable. That could be a good combination for over 3 goals to land.
The other bet I like is for Philadelphia Union to do a proper good job on the Houston Dynamo. Houston arrive in Philly having played in New York in a helter-skelter sort of match on Thursday night so it would be only human for them to be a little jaded here, especially when you think of how long they were with 10 men in that match for. Philadelphia Union are pretty strong at home with seven wins from their 12 matches there. I can’t see any result other than a pretty convincing home win given everything that has gone on with Houston this week.
