The second half of the third week of matches in the Major League Soccer season takes place on Sunday evening when we have a monster five matches to enjoy in the leading league in America, as the campaign begins to take shape a little.
The Eastern Conference is in focus for much of the evening but then the West takes centre stage. We have one match live on TV for those of us who are in the UK and the usual streams will show the other games.
Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off time in brackets)
New York City FC v Los Angeles Football Club (19.00)
FC Cincinnati v Portland Timbers (21.00)
Atlanta United FC v Philadelphia Union (23.00)
Toronto FC v New England Revolution (23.30)
Colorado Rapids vs Sporting Kansas City (01.00)
Preview
The TV match on Sunday night comes from the new boys FC Cincinnati who play their first home match in Major League Soccer when they go up against the former champions Portland Timbers. All eyes will be on the champions Atlanta United to see if they can pick up their first win of the campaign, when they entertain fellow Eastern Conference side Philadelphia Union.
The action begins at the iconic Yankee Stadium where New York City FC will also be looking for a first win of the campaign when they host a Los Angeles FC team who have made a great start to the season. The two later matches sees the one Canadian side in action on Sunday evening in Toronto FC hosting New England Revolution before the Colorado Rapids take on Sporting Kansas City in a Western Conference clash.

Betting
I’m taking two bets on Sunday night. I really don’t get how we can get the price we can on Los Angeles FC to avoid defeat to New York City. I’ve said it both weeks of the season so far and I’ll say it again I don’t see where NYC naturally score goals and if there is one thing they are going to have to do here you would think it is score goals because LAFC have a wonderful attack and they can mix it up top too. They can play pretty football or they can bang it long into the centre-forward. LAFC have looked very strong so far this season and I expect them to avoid defeat here at the very least and I wouldn’t be completely surprised if they win the game.
I fancy we’ll see plenty of goals over the course of the evening and at least three of them can come in the match between FC Cincinnati and Portland Timbers. Both these sides have shown their defensive frailties this season but both have also shown that they can deliver the goods going forward this term too. Cincinnati will be right up for this in their first home game in the competition while Portland are always a dangerous side. The absence of Diego Chara takes the Timbers’ defensive shield away which should lead to a high scoring game.
