The Major League Soccer regular season continues on Tuesday night when two Canadian outfits clash at BMO Field when Toronto FC take on the Vancouver Whitecaps as both sides look to get their campaigns back on track.
Both these sides got their season back up and running in the MLS is Back tournament last month but were eliminated in the last 16. There were doubts over whether either would be able to continue but MLS have built a restart plan for Canadian sides which begin here.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live on Free Sports for those of us in the UK. The build up begins at 1.05am with the match kicking off shortly after that. It is also on offer on the streaming consoles at bookmaker sites.
Toronto FC
The beaten finalists in the MLS Cup final last year came out of the MLS is Back tournament with their position in the Eastern Conference enhanced and with Canadian sides only being allowed to play each other for the meantime, you’ve got to think this is a good chance for Toronto FC to really cement their position towards the head of the East, as they ultimately look to go one better than they managed last term.
At that tournament they managed a win and two draws before a poor performance against New York City FC denied them at the wrong time. There are goals in this Toronto FC side as evidenced by the fine form of Ayo Akinola down in Orlando. There was a fragility about them defensively though and that is something they are going to need to patch up by the time they are freed up to face the American sides in the league.

Vancouver Whitecaps
The Vancouver Whitecaps struggled to get through to the last 16 of the MLS is Back tournament but we should remember that they were only knocked out on penalties when they got beaten in Orlando. The other thing we should note is that they were missing the better part of half their first team for that tournament due to Covid tests and things like that. In the month or so since then they have got those players back which could be key here.
The Whitecaps started their tournament in Orlando leaking goals left right and centre but they soon found a solution to that and became quite hard to beat. Ultimately it did them no good at the time but if they can keep that solidity moving forward then they might well offer up a case for having a much stronger season than last term, where to be fair they were pitiful even allowing for a necessary period of transition.
Betting
I think we will see some goals here. Both sides have got their seasons back up and running and while it is a couple of weeks since they last played, that is no different to say an international break so I don’t expect there to be a need to get back up to speed which we saw in the early stages of the MLS is Back tournament and those two matches between FC Dallas and Nashville that have taken place since proceedings concluded in Orlando.
If we think back to that tournament in Florida, Toronto FC conceded goals regularly. They let in two against DC United, three to Montreal Impact and three more against New York City FC while Vancouver Whitecaps shipped four to San Jose Earthquakes and three more to the Seattle Sounders. Although the Whitecaps weren’t as free scoring as Toronto in the tournament last month, they were missing the likes of Lucas Cavallini and Tosaint Ricketts. While the departure of Inbeom Hwang isn’t ideal there are goals in both these sides and I expect to see that played out here. I’ll take over 3.25 goals in this one.
