MLS 2021 – Sunday 30th May Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There are two matches remaining in the MLS season prior to the summer international break and they both come along on Sunday evening when four sides conclude their first part of the campaign on what should be a good night of football.

The good news for UK followers of this league is that both matches are live on TV for us to enjoy, although we’ll be going deep into the early hours of Monday morning if we are to do so. They are also available on the streaming services of the bookmakers.

Philadelphia Union vs Portland Timbers (00.00 – Free Sports)

The opening match of the night comes from Subaru Park where two teams who hoisted silverware last season collide as the Philadelphia Union, holders of the Supporters’ Shield, host the MLS is Back tournament winners Portland Timbers.

It took the Union a while to get going in the MLS this season with their attention understandably going into the Champions League but since that tournament paused they have picked up and go into this match off the back of three wins in their last four matches. Portland have won their last two games but injuries are really beginning to do them some damage and they have a number of key players missing for this match which is sure to hurt them, particularly when you consider they are a side who usually rely so much on their home form. I’m happy to ride the positive form of the Union who are usually very tough to beat on their own turf.

Seattle Sounders vs Austin FC (02.30 – Free Sports)

The second match of the night sees the beaten MLS Cup finalists of last season, Seattle Sounders, looking to extend their lead at the top of the Western Conference table when they host the new boys Austin FC.

Seattle have started the season really well but they didn’t look their fluent selves going forward during their match against Atlanta United last week and I wonder if their injuries are beginning to catch up with them. The loss of Nico Lodeiro for longer than expected continues to be a blow while Stefan Frei in goal is a big absence as well. Austin FC have started life in MLS creditably although they have lost their last three matches going into this game. Even with their injuries I would expect Seattle to win here but those absences make backing them on the handicap a less enticing prospect.
