MLS 2022 – San Jose Earthquakes vs LA Galaxy Tips, TV and Betting Preview

It might be the international break but that doesn’t mean that the MLS action stops and we have one match in the competition on Saturday night as we look to even up the amount of matches for each team heading into the final two weeks of the season.

It is a big clash in the Western Conference as well with the San Jose Earthquakes hosting their Californian rivals Los Angeles Galaxy in a match which is comfortably bigger for the visitors than it is the home side.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on Free Sports in the UK with the build-up beginning at 3.05am and the match kicking off shortly afterwards. It is also available on the bookmaker streams too.

San Jose Earthquakes

After some signs of progress for the San Jose Earthquakes in the last couple of seasons, they have reverted to type this time around and just haven’t been able to get any consistency going. They have just seven wins from their 31 matches and have been out of play-off contention for a while now. They are playing purely for a bit of pride and to try and get something to take with them into next season where the pressure will be on them to go a lot better than they have done this time around.

When the Earthquakes reflect on the season and look for areas to improve it won’t take them too long. They simply need to stop conceding the number of goals they have done. They have shipped 64 goals in 31 matches and that is just not good enough. To be fair they have found the net 46 times themselves but until they can balance attack with some sort of defence you sense the Earthquakes are going to continue to be one of the weaker sides in MLS.

LA Galaxy

There is never a situation where the LA Galaxy should miss out on the Western Conference play-offs but having one it last season they will be eager not to repeat it again this term. A good run of just one defeat in their last eight matches has pushed them into the top seven and a win here will leave them needing just one more from their last two games to be around when the knockout football begins. A defeat here though keeps so many teams with them in their sights so this feels like a defining game in the season.

Galaxy are actually the third highest scorers in the Western Conference, with only the top two having scored more than them, but their 47 goals against has been a problem all season particularly when they have often needed two goals to win a game. While the Galaxy have only lost one of their last eight, they have only won one of their last five so they need to find a way of getting the job done more regularly from here on in.

Betting

I’m expecting to see goals in this match. Home matches for San Jose Earthquakes average almost 3.5 per game while Galaxy away games aren’t exactly low scoring either. Although the home side aren’t playing for anything here there is enough of a rivalry between these two teams that they won’t be looking to win. Galaxy really have to get something from this contest and would prefer a win so I expect to see them on the front foot from the off.

Both teams are close to full strength too. One or two players are away on international duty but it is nothing like the number that it could be so that is a positive. There are goals all across this Los Angeles offensive unit and we know that San Jose play very expansive at home. The reverse meeting between these two ended 3-2 in the favour of the Earthquakes and I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the score here. However this one ends I think there is juice on the 3.25 goal line to take the over.
