The latest round of matches in the MLS 2023 season concludes on Sunday evening when two Western Conference teams battle it out for three big points as Minnesota United play host to the Seattle Sounders.
Seattle head into the game in fourth place in the Western Conference but have the chance to move up to third with a win here. Minnesota dropped out of the top nine on Sunday and will be looking to move back in that zone with victory here.
Where to watch
The match will be shown live and in full on Apple TV for all subscribers with the build-up beginning at 9.30pm ahead of the kick off at 9.55pm. It can also be viewed on the bookmaker live streams as ever.
Minnesota United
This has been a bit of an up and down season for Minnesota United. If you think back to the beginning of it they were hindered by Emmanuel Reynoso, by far and away their best player, not coming back for the start of the campaign. Things have been much smoother since he has returned to the club and with the addition of Teemu Pukki in the summer transfer window, Minnesota will be expecting to finish the season positively.
There were certainly signs of that potentially being the case during the Leagues Cup where Minnesota reached the quarter final before it all went wrong against Nashville SC. They got back to winning ways in the MLS last week though when they went to New York City and won, which is never the easiest place to go and win, so Minnesota probably should be judged on the last few weeks rather than the season overall.

Seattle Sounders
It has been the other way around for the Seattle Sounders. They started the season like a house on fire but as they lost a couple of key players their form faltered and unlike Minnesota they were not able to get it back in the Leagues Cup. They were given a good going over by Real Salt Lake and when it looked like they might recover against Monterrey they poked the bear and felt the full force of that. Their return to MLS was not as good with a tame home loss to Atlanta United.
There is no doubt that Seattle have not been as good without Cristian Roldan in their side so they will be pleased that he is on the crest of returning from injury. Seattle don’t seem to score as many without him in the side and they come under a lot of pressure in attacking areas as well. To be fair to the Sounders though, they do have four wins on their travels this term so unlike some teams in MLS they don’t weaken dramatically when they go on their journeys.
Betting
Minnesota United matches have suddenly got more high scoring with them a lot more content at playing further up the pitch with Emmanuel Reynoso now back pulling the strings and I would be surprised if this one doesn’t follow that pattern for a couple of reasons, the chief one being that we are past the stage where draws are going to help Minnesota. This is a team who shouldn’t just be creeping into the playoffs but looking to reach the top four and host two games in the first round. A win here moves them to within two points of Seattle.
The other reason why I think there will be goals in this game is because Seattle have lost their shape defensively in recent times. They have conceded nine times in their last three outings, but to be fair to the Sounders they do still carry a goal threat, especially on the break where they might be able to play in this one. That all makes me think that over 2.75 goals is the bet to close out an entertaining weekend in MLS.
